Did an oil change yesterday and I think I may have put about 200-400 ml too much in, it's slightly over the line on the dipstick now that the car has stood and cooled all night. Do you think this will cause any damage to anything? Any other way to drain a little off other than sump plug?

I've heard putting too much in is kinda the same as not having enough in. Could be wrong though. I'd check again today to make sure though and then drain some off if need be. Sump plug would be the easiest way I'd have thought. Or you could dip the dipstick and wipe off the oil everytime until its at the right level...could take a while though

Yea never good having to much oil, sometimes too much oil, will build up pressure in the sump and start to force it past the piston rings making it smoke!

Just jack her up, take the sump plug out , drain out and check it, or if you have a fluid exactor you could use that down the dipstick hole!

Not entirely true. Remember I put a hole through one of my pistons due to abuse

It can cause damage to the cat. Best bet is to just undo the sump nut and let a bit flow out.

iv seen an astra td turbo explode due to over filling reved its tits off even with the key out the ignition it couldnt be turned off the turbo kept pulling the oil supply through lots of smoke, v funny the boss at the side of the road (works van) dead van at the end of it

just drain some out, takes five minutes.

On my old Golf nout happened. Must have been like that for a few days before the screen was ran out and I popped the bonnet and noticed the cap was on the scuttle tray, lol.

If it was my car and it was 2 or 3 mm above maximum I wouldnt bother draining it out. Somthing I've heard if you exccessively overfill with oil is that the force of the crank hitting the 'too high' oil level can cause big damage.

The filler cap fell of my Clio once and the engine would almost die under any load - But thats a French piece of shit.

Diesels are even worse for this!

There has to be pretty much the right amount of oil, overwise the fuel pump finds it hard to close and open the rack, then the rack jams and makes the engine RPM become uncontrolable!

not to mention that excessive pressure can blow various oil seals. Can knacker an engine a lot quicker than having not enough oil in.

Sorted this monday morning, 7:45 am in the pissing rain not nice :( Wont be doing that again... note to self: take car off axle stands before filling oil

Yep thats right. Theres a sticker on my GTI saying the exact same thing!
