I'm pretty paranoid about my car getting stolen, it lives on the street, it's the oldest car on the street and cars have been stolen from my street before.

i figure, if i get a snap off steering wheel boss and just take my steering wheel off every time i leave it there, that should be quite a good deterant. i've got a 280mm momo wheel so i cant fit a lock through it. i dont think they're that good anyway.

I'd like to know, what are other peoples opinions of the snap off bosses? it's not gonna snap off while I'm driving around is it? worth the money?

I would imagine there is some kind of safety standard they have to pass to ensure its not just going to come off when your driving.

it would be just my luck for it to fall off. my radiator literally just fell out the other day. it was 3 weeks old.

Yeah mk3 radiators are shite. The thing is those pins aren't like they are screwed into the rad so its not going anywhere, they just kind of press on top of it with there finger crossed hoping it doesn't fall off!

yeah right, i've made some mounts that i've screwed into the bit where the bonnet lock is. the rad doesnt even move a millimeter now, it's not going anywhere!

Momo Snap-Off kits bite into the boss at 3 points along the same axis as the steering column, and these three points are unique to each kit so another Momo Snap-Off wheel can't be used.

Then you have two pins that bite into the boss perpendicular to the steering column. These are the two peg things you see at the side. Then you have a little locking barrel peg that's the of the same idea and location as these two pins, but locks into place with a little key so the wheel cannot be accidently disengaged while driving.

I've had no problems with mine. It feels snug, there's no play in any axis, and it's simple to use. It also gives me great peace of mind as theres no way you'll be able to steer my car by the hub with it's diff

i have one on the mini its a smaller spline oen as i got told the larger ones are abit sloppy on the track? I've never had a larger splined one so cant explain, mines a 3 bolt yellow one from deamon tweeks (cant remember the name)

I had one and got on well with it. Couple of things to consider are that the steering wheel is closer to you and further away from the indicator stalks so you have to reach for them. It didnt bother it me at the time as I had corrado seats at the time which sat further back.

Also remember that if you are going somewhere, ie the pub or a shopping centre etc you need to take the steering wheel with you. Depending on where you are you might feel a bit of a prat walking around with a steering wheel.

Get a big bastard mul-T-lock that goes around your gearstick. Then that way no ones is take the car anywhere at all. They are really heavy duty and unless the thief happened to have an angle grinder in his pocket he would have no way of getting it off. My dad had one back when he had his mk2 golf GTi. Must have had 5 attempts to steal his car and still no one got it away. Cheaper too!!

Also i have caught the odd person carrying their steering wheel about and they did look a bit of a prick. Unless you have a snazzy bag to put it in

Carry a socket / allen key set with you ..

Just means it would take a cpl of mins each morning to get the car setup for driving .

i have one on the volvo and thinking about putting one on the loon to , its a momo snap off one u have the two pins plus another locked pin , have to use key to take wheel off, people look at u crazy if u walk around with a wheel , but i think they are much better than a steering lock . been thinking about using the same steering wheel off the volvo on the polo as i love the feel of it , its a volvo 440 turbo momo wheel , quite rare . but its lovely and good shape n grip .

if they rearlly want the car they will come check it out and se the best way to steel it

i would go for an alarm or remove your wheels every nite

spit in a comdom and tie it round your door handle..... no fucker will touch it

if they were that desperate to have you are car -- they wouldnt carry snap off wheels with them they would just put it on the back of a tow truck and sort it out when their back at their garage or whatever - its a good deterant from regular little pikeys
