yet more gearbox problems

Featured Replies

hi there guys finally got my car back from the garage, been there since before christmas after my gearbox had the dreaded internal rivet failure. so fitted a recon gearbox supplied from volks apart in kent, all seemed fine all gears engaging etc. untill i took it out for a test drive only to find 5th is exactly the same as fourth, not similar, identical, no rev change not even a change of note of the engine!! ahh is it possible for them to have fitted two 4th gogs in the box?!! has anyone heard of anything like this? if so volks apart are bloody paying for a new box to be fitted, cant see it being a seletion problem as they're all engaging great and aprt from reverse they're all on the same spindle! help! please!

Anyway think i remember reading somewhere on here about 5th an after thought and so is bolted on. It true that may be why you have 2 4ths

bumpidy bump, just after anyone whos heard of this problem or knows what it could be really

I have come across this before with recon boxes, very rare however.5th gear is overdrive so its just bolted on to the end of the shaft.

Its likely a different sized cog was used giving you odd gearing. :(
