mk4 polo BHP??

Featured Replies

hi all, I'm looking to buy a mk4 polo 16v but finding it difficult to find one i like in my price range.

i want a 16v as its 100bhp. just wondering how much power the 1.6 has? also what tuning options does both engines have and how easily can you get more power out off them?

thanks in advance.

Hmmm... Power outputs:

1.0 8v = 45/50 bhp

1.3 8v = 55 bhp

1.4 8v = 60 bhp

1.4 16v = 100 bhp

1.6 8v = 75 bhp

However, these are probably all wildly wrong, I dont know where VW get their power figures from

i always thought the 1.6 had 100bhp like the valver but just not as quick??

Nope the 1.6 8v is 75-80 bhp matey.

And by how most people talk the higher bhp a car has as standard then the more u'll be able to get out of it.

example; a valver (100bhp) and you want it to push out 125, your makin the engine work 25% harder, where was if you had a 1.6 8v (75bhp) and you wanted to get the same power of 125 then its gona be harder and more expencive to get the same results simply cos its makin the engine work 67% harder

so at a guess id say its cheaper to get mods to increase power by 25% than 67%

but never understood how the 6n 1.4 16v has 100bhp but the 6n2 1.4 16v only has 75?

They did a 100 bhp 16v 6n2 as well

Not very common though

an engine from the 6n2 100bhp for sale atm £275

in for sale section

thers two models of 6n2 16v one 75bhp and 100bhp

tim-mk2 in the loon 1.6 it is a 100bhp but its not even possible to do a straight engine swap the mounts are different...

tuning options most people would just buy a bmc induction kit for bout £150 and a stainles manifold £150... with full s/s system bout £300

your probily looking at geting about 5bhp 10 if you are lucky

if your lookingat tuning quite far you want cams only ones I've seen are about £550 with verniers and then head work for the cams depends what state of head work and were its done on price really

As far as I'm aware there are less than 300 16v Mk5s in existance, or it might be 1000! I certainly know there is less than 300 Mk5 Colour Concepts

ah rite cool for the heads up!

I think but could be wrong that its probs 1000 16v 6n2s as there a quite a few around me!

think i need to find me a mk4 16v polo then. not expecting huge power. but enough to have fun in town and still return some decent mpg. love the look of my mk3 golf but being an auto its just not fun.

There's also a 6n 1.4 16v SE which is available in 60bhp and 75bhp

So there's a few different 1.4 16v options

i know its nothing to do with mk4's but just wondered what the bhp on the mk3's are if anyone has got them?

Think GT's are 75bhp standard

/\ Yep, and 1.0 are 45bhp, and 1.3 are 55bhp. G40 are 119 bhp iirc.

GEt a Mk3

SE's are 8 valves not 16 valves

And the 1043cc is 44bhp and the 999cc is 50bhp IIRC

HTH

no there isnt :-D

/\/\/\ 60bhp, don't be silly

and you forgot the 1.9D which everyone says it's slow but has a 64 bhp and as torque as a valver!

That's because it is slow and has pretty much no torque considering it's a diesel

16 seconds to 60, fuck me, hold on

I thought the 1.4 16V 100PS (98.6BHP) model was only in the mk5 and up?

Ok, just looked into that. It was sold as an SE and It has a 1.4 16v, but just looking through it, its not an SE, so apologies on incorrect info. What model do I have potentially if its not an SE? cos I gota change some details on the paperwork side of things.
