Went and got my new brakes and hubs yesterday, 6n2 GTI, not sure weather to 280mm them because i cant find the carriers on there own :-( , but ordered a set of goodridge hose

Disc are nearly new all be it abit of surface rust, and the calipers could do with a paint, but hey

as i said in the other thread. my carbs are exactly as they came off the bike. do you have any pics/diagrams of what to block/drill?

This is looking into the carbs, the center brass circle needs to be blocked by a screw or whatever, and the bowl underneath unscew it (be careful not to drop any off the float pins etc) and youl see two jets a big one and a small one, take out the big one and drill it to 1.5mm to 1.6mm thats the basic's you might need to drill it more though, hope thats some help

Although I thought that those brass circles were at the bottom on mine. could be wrong though. Might not matter if its just the middle one that needs blocking. is it a threaded whole that i could just wind a screw/bolt into to block or will it need tapping?

Yeah they might be at the bottom i cant remember!! they're bascialy the idle air jets, i just used self tapers, but a friend used big pop rivets and glued them in? upto you, just as long as they're locked realy

I've taken my carbs off and blocked the centre brass hole. I used some self tappers from a set of cabinet door hinges :oops::lol:

I've taken the bowls off the bottom of the carbs, but i cant seem to work out what needs to be drilled. The only thing i could see that may need drilling is down the centre of the big jet. although thats already 1.5mm. Did you mean it needed to be drilled FROM 1.5mm TO 1.6mm. The only drill bit i've got that small is a 1.5 :(

did you speak to Bogg Bros for this info? I'm going to call them shortly i think.

My jets are drilled to 1.5 but it was tuned for low-med revs. 1.6 would be better and i was told 1.6-1.7 And i didnt block anything,which is probably why it idled near the MOT maximum of 1500k rpm. If i may add something about the two float chamber vents; most just aim them down. But i suggest you pipe them into your form of induction box/filters. HT leads are a bit close.. :oops:

i've done mine now, and got them back on. Its its running 10x better... its now an absolute beast... and i need a new clutch! (i've got one from an 1100 on there at the mo :oops::lol: )

here am in the process of converting my mk3 polo coupe from a 1.3 to a 1.6AEE running on bike crabs, undecided what size! what would be best and what bhp and torque roughly would i producing at the end of it! cheers

Hi, me and joel are running early yamaha R6 carbs as the later models ran injection, on the power and torque front watch this space as hopefuly mine will be in the car soon, otherwise i have no idea!

Right, a few updates, cam has arrived, and fitted a crankcase breather, few pics, and in the procss of re-panting my GTI calipers/carriers, and pinted the hubs black, should have pics soon though

what are you doin anout the ECU and MOT emissions ??

Cheers mte, well I'm gng obin the ECU a am currently splicng a golf mk2 1.6 diver loom to my standard loom, and on theMOT I'm prob guna try keepng the cat on hand and hoping for the best!

mine went through the emissions test with no problems at all. it was 0.17 i think. although that what before i'd blocked the air jets and sorted a couple air leaks in the manifold.

I shoulda done summin like that for my crankcase breather! that looks really good! i'd just left the standard bit of rubber on it, but i've got the end in a little bottle as i was getting some discharge from it (although thats become less now so could probs just wack a wee filter on it)

I'm on the lookout for another head and a nice cam now :wink:

You'll LOVE it when its done. Although mines in the lighter mk2 (which is all stripped out), you've got the extra mods, i'm sure it'll feels similar, and believe me its BIG TIME fun hehe.

what sort of power do you think this is putting out? i was planning on doing a 1.6 on some gixxer 750 carbs, or would R6 ones be easier?

Lookin good! What flywheel is that? Looks like the 1.0-1.4 item i used - so it'll rev well. I just put the breather filter directly on the breather box,but that looks better. Interesting orange theme going on. Jelous of the cam! How much?

Cheers man, nope standard 1.6 item, i was considering lightening it, but chose not to, the cam was £130 delivered! brand new, but that was with discount!

Is the clutch plate countersunk into the flywheel slightly? Well it depends how you want it,but using a fly from a smaller post-94 engine will make it more responsive,rev more sweetly,and less tendency to bog down. Not helpful for traction in low gears,though.. Depends what you want from it. You'll need a clutch to suit if so,because the pressure plate is a different reach - G40,ideally.

i'm using the flywheel and clutch from a 1.1 and i've got to concur with Mikey, it revs SO freely. it'll hit 7000k in a flash. but does NO favours for traction :lol: The good torque figure for the 1.6 makes up for the potential loss by using the lighter flywheel. it lends itself well to the mk2, it'll be interesting to see what its like in the mk4. I'll be upgrading to the g40 item in the near future, at the same time as swapping for a different box with better ratios.

I'll be getting a cam at some point in the next couple months. i'd like a spare head really to p+p and build up.

I've no reason to believe mine is running at its full potential. its still got the 152 mains (1.5mm) so is most probably a little lean across the revs. unfortunately, the power run on sunday will be just that, a power run, and i wont get the use of a wideband. that'll have to wait a while.

ALTHOUGH i've got problems with my inlet manifold. A design flaw essentially. I've got a persistent air leak thats not doing my power any favours.

I'm going to design and make a manifold much like yours. But can you tell me about the rubber hoses you've usd to attach the carbs. Are they the factory item off the bike? and do they have a little 'bit' around the inside of them that sits on the groove on the carbs to stop them slipping? it also looks like they reduce in size, is that the case? Sorry for all the questions but the more i learn now, the sooner i can get to designing my new manifold. I'm going to head to a bike shop tomorrow to see if i can get those rubbers (provided they are a the factory item!)

There was no rolling road there today like there had been the last couple times so didn't get a pwer figure. But i went up against a calibra turbo and won. A 200hp clio and won, A clio172 and won, my friends C20XE'd mini... and won, and a saxo vts and won :D :D I'm really looking forward to getting the air leak sorted and having it jetted properly :D
