that looks very nice mate!

i'd keep with that flywheel. it'll rev so freely throught the bike carbs anyway, that you dont really need to sacrafice any torque for more revs.

Our inlet manifolds look nearly identicle (although yours is ally). Did you not manage to get any red rubbers then?

oh and sorry about the pic i promised you dude. been a little 'in limbo' in computers so not got round to it. The plumbing is a doddle though...

just run the fuel in to the little one in the middle of the carbs at the bottom. and there is no return. i'll annotate one of your pics now...

and that is it. no joke, it is that easy! all the other are just left open to air. Mines been like that for about 1000 miles now with no problems at all :D

I did think that, are you running the standard AEE flywheel then?

Yeah man, both homemade manifolds! i didnt bother with the red rubbers in the end, i need to stop spending money on it!!

the carbs have no return from them, but as has been said, an FPR will have a return facilty.

I'm using a mk1 polo 1.1 flyhwheel. its too light if anythin, it flies up the revs quicker than it needs to really and it took a bit of getting used to to drive smoothely. in the slightly heavier 6n you may be grateful for the extra torque.

and i'm not running any air filters. not as of yet anyway. i did have a pair of old socks stretched over the trumpets to stop small children and birds etc getting sucked in but removed them for volksfest and not got round to puttin them back on just yet.

Cool, well i have got a 1.4 flywheel, but unsure if the 1.4 and 1.6 are actualy different, that could be a good medium, i have found some mini K&N style filters for £32 i think I'm going to run them?

Amazing that some people think that heavy flywheels generate torque. Wow, you really can change the laws of physics. If the engine is revving up too quick, change your gearing and make the most of it. A heavy flywheel is an impediment to acceleration, both positive and negative, so it takes you longer to get up to speed, but also keeps some of that speed when the hill is trying to slow you down. As the engine is a tuned 1.6, I doubt the hills are going to be much of an issue.

Use the mk3 flywheel and starter.

cant you incorporate the original bike air box ? that way you could rig up a ram air system to the box to for the extra poke ! as that was what they were intended to do !

Yeah,a lighter flywheel does not reduce torque. I think Joel's getting confused with transition. Using a lighter fly allows the engines torque to be transferred into the wheels quicker,as its power is not being sapped by the fly. So you have more acceleration at 2k rpm,not less. But that's in gear - a lighter fly is carrying less 'stored energy' at the clutch biting point. Again,it wont be missed.

yeah sorry, i didn't meant it would actually reduce the turning force generated by the engine :smirk: I basically meant just how Mikey explained it. it alters how the torque is delivered (explaining this would be a lot easier with an rr graph of before and after flywheels lightening)

Hello chaps, i have a question.

I'm planning on getting my carbs on by the 13th, i have the fuel pump off of an r6 so can i just swap this for the normal pump to lower the pressure? will that be ok?

Also talking to a guy at work, using round pipe for the inlet manifold, the bores on the head are oval so mating the round pipe with the smaller oval bores will cause a vortex or something when the air hits the face of the head. anyone had anybother with this?

Just thought i would add a pic of my carbs, I'm on finishing the manifold now so will post that up when done too

the metal one on you are inlet? i have the same pipe on my manifold.. will use this then..

Fitted the engine today, run fuel lines ignition etc, when cranking no sign of firing, but when you open the throttle the tiniest bit it sounds like it stalls it and the engine barley turns over?? has anyone experienced anything like that?

could be flooding it matey, best to go through a process of elimination. check to see if you have spark when you turn it over, check to see that the fuel is flowing, check the choke on the carbs. take out the plugs and see if it is flooded
