Insurance rant!!

Featured Replies

I can understand why insurance costs are high for young male drivers but just got a 3rd party fire and theft quote from quinn direct for £3000 for my 1L mk 3 polo. How are people who cant go on their parents policy meant to be able to afford those prices?

Pass plus is something I will be doing but I want to know how some people such as my mate pay £1200 (from quinn) for a 1.2 04 plate clio and i get a quote like that!!

Luckily I'm on my dads policy with some abstract company for £320 but I'd rather have the car in my name and have my own insurance, not going to be able to afford that for years by the looks of it. Was looking at getting a gt camshaft and a poloace chip but any mods at all and its instant refusal.

There is a section for insurance etc.

But that quote sounds very excessive!

I'm 17, paying £2300 3rd party fire & theft, with 6 points, on a 1.3 Mk3 CL Coupe.

Thats with Direct Line.

Insurance companies don't care if you can't afford their prices.

Insurance companies don't care if this means that you can't afford to run a car.

Insurance companies don't care if this means you are stuck with public transport, walking, getting a lift, or using your bike.

Insurance companies don't care if this affects your social life, job prospects, or general mobility.

Insurance companies only care about the actuarial calculation of how likely you are to be involved in an accident, and therefore setting your premium at a level that still allows them to make money from the insurance business.

you have 6 points and your 17? how you still got your license?

that is crazy money for insurance.

i paid 2400 fc for my first year on my 1.4 focus zetec and that was with one claim. but now pay 900 fc with mods declared on my g40 at 20 with 2 years no claims.

Age and no claims makes a massive difference.

Shop around mate there will be cheaper options.

try moneysupermarket.com, bell.com etc

pass plus makes a massive difference with some people, with norwich union it made 50% difference when i did it, but others it does nothing.

just pure numbers of quotes will find you the best one.

remember it also depends on where u live to,

1Yr NCB 1.4 CL = £700 3rd party , before that it was £1600

There are so many things it goes on its crazy, and until you hit 19 or 20 and have been driving a few years you will always be paying through the nose for insurance.

For example my first car Renault Megane 1.4 RN Group 4 insurance I paid £1700 TPFT

Car I have now Saxo VTR 1.6 Group 7 insurance 2 accidents and 7 points £700 Fully Comp!

Just because I was 17 when I had my first car and now I'm 20. Its nuts.

you have 6 points and your 17? how you still got your license?

They were on my Provisional, which has no limit of how many points can be put on, now they've transferred onto my full license, if i get up to 6 more i'll lose it.

If you get one more you will loose it. So I'd be very careful if i were you.

On my mk2 1.3 i only pay 1300 with 3points n less thn one years driving. try confused.com also.

Yeah and also you need to get that first year out the way aswell, first year on insurance is always a killer.

i saw a repeat of top gear, where they have the 10k supercars.

mr clarkson pretty much lies through his teeth to get his quote down.

ie: profession, saying its in a secure locked garage etc...

anyone know that if you do that your insurance will be invalid if you have a smash? or just invalid if you get it nicked from home?

Too true there mate!!

I'm paying £1400 fully comp under my mums policy with churchill.

I have 9points no years NC and I'm 19 driving for just over 2years!

My excess is a £1000 but i think thats a fairly good price.

I know most cant afford to but I would advice fully comp as TPFT is shit if you do fuck up. Accidents happen not matter how careful your being!

6points in your 1st 2years, full or provisional means it gets revoked. No questions asked as mine was!

WTF Its not unlimited!! That would be ridiculious!!

I've had mine revoked within the 1st 2years

So after two years of passing your test can you have a maximum of 12 points?

Also how long is it until points get wiped off? 3 years?

Yeah 12 points. Depending on the offence aswell mate. But they are normally on your licence for 4years but only valid for 3years!

I have three removed in this coming August!!!! Yay for me!

So I get a maximum of 12 points this September :) That will keep the pressure off a bit :ninja:

insurance it ridiculous i can see why people dont bother paying altho they make me angry! glad I'm a girl and dont get ripped off so much as u lot! excess' for young people are ridiculous too! mines £600! i pay less for the bloody insurance policy

my access is £135, n i only pay £700

:finger:

My excess is £350. £200 because I'm 21, and £150 voluntary.

I'm paying £670 ish now under my own name with 1 yr NCB, and 1 accident against me. It WAS cheaper as a named, but seems turning 21 knocked over £400 off for me.

before my i got my driving convictions wiped off it was gonna cost me £2500 to go on my GF insurence for a 1.4 Focus CL lol that was with a LC20 IN10 and a CD20 and a year ban @19 up untill i was 24!!!

now 2001 Skoda Octy 1.4, LC20 (Lpplate fell off my yamaha DTR so pig did me) plus our lass on their £390 fully comp :D

how much do you reckon i should be paying people??

I'm 18, been driving a year, had one claim being a named driver of a car so no ncb

/\/\ Do a search on moneysupermarket.com and you will find out how much the insurance companies think you should be paying

Move to Scotland, some of these prices are laughable...

Year 1 - 1992 Mk3 Polo 1.0 spi - £800 third party in my name, with 0NCB. 1990 Land Rover Discovery 2.5 TDI - £279 fully comp, £0 excess also in my name.

Year 2 - 1990 Mk2 Golf 1.3 - £500 fully comp also in my name, but still 0NCB because my previous insurer badly fucked up. Excess is £300 - £150 because I'm under 21, and £150 voluntary.

iv got 6 points too and had my licence revoked! I'm 20 got a modified mk2 polo coupe ad pay £1600, i was payin 1400 on a 200sx before i got points, also the reason i got points!

insurance companys arent too bad i just rang up to see how much my gt conversion was gona put it up and they said nothin coz its only a 100cc change so they wont bother theyl just change my details for me
