Insurance rant!!

Featured Replies

you have 6 points and your 17? how you still got your license?

They were on my Provisional, which has no limit of how many points can be put on, now they've transferred onto my full license, if i get up to 6 more i'll lose it.

If you get one more you will loose it. So I'd be very careful if i were you.

Yeah and also you need to get that first year out the way aswell, first year on insurance is always a killer.

6points in your 1st 2years, full or provisional means it gets revoked. No questions asked as mine was!

WTF Its not unlimited!! That would be ridiculious!!

I've had mine revoked within the 1st 2years

I read on the DVLA that if you get points on your provisional as long as its under 12, when you pass your test your licence is safe unless you get just one more point. Then its gone. Would be a bit unfair if you had 6 points, passed your test then 3 weeks later got a letter saying its revoked. I'd not even bother doing my test if that was the case.

I have 9points no years NC and I'm 19 driving for just over 2years!

it's prick's like you that bump up everyone else's premium's

You're a prick too though so it evens it out.:thumbsup:

Age plays a big part in your premium, but i'd say only 50% in most cases.

The MK3 will be expensive compared to new Corsa's and Clios (my sisters premium plummeted when she bought a new Clio) because they're so easy to steal in comparison. Where you live is also important and don't under estimate your job title! I shed a good £50 when I changed status from student to engineer bringing my premium to about £295 tpft with a £150 excess and protected NCB.

Other things which help: be realistic with your mileage allowance and check to make sure the insurance company haven’t given a quote on a mileage you know you'll never do. Any security devices? Can you park on a drive or in a garage? Pass plus is also a must as many insurers knock great chunks off for it.

Biggest tip of all, and it’s obvious: keep your license clean!

Well i phoned the DVLA and had them explain it to me before i got my full license.

The guy told me, even though they get transferred onto you're full license, it doesnt matter how many points you get on a provisional (as far as getting it revoked goes), but on your full license, regardless of how many have been carried over from provisional, if you get OVER 6 in your first year of driving, it will be revoked.

So even though i've got 6 on from my provisional, i can get up to 6 more before i lose it.

I thought it was over 6 in your first 2 years?!

Seems a bit unfair tbh.

So say you got 3 points on a provisional, passed your test then got another 3 points what would happen then?, Would you keep your licence? While folk who get caught twice after passing their test lose it. Something isn't right there.

I'm going to find where I read about the 6 points on a provisional means when you pass you only need 1 point to have your licence revoked.

who the fuck are you?

Its 6 points in the first two years of driving.

I should know and i am ashamed of having them.

I diddnt thrash it around everywere like a red arsed fly.

I got 3 points two months into driving on the twisties between a couple of villages

I then got 3 more points only a few weeks from my two years accelarating onto a duel carrigeway.

I dont want to think about my insurance premiums for when i try and get a new car and have my licence back .

I have also been charged with driving with no licence therfore invalid insurance due to a unforseen complication (ie girlfriend who i used to live with not sending me my mail when i got the 2nd ticket and me finding out by being pulled over by the police and having my car impounded)

Waiting for the complete court verdict then going to take my test again iff I'm not banned due to work circumstances then i will hopefully be back on the road soon .

I will be driving around like a sunday driver all the time i dont want to take chances .

Hopefully my insurance will not be too bad but i supose i get what i am given and cant complain .

Its a shame but you get the hand your delt dont you at the end of the day .

I do advise anyone who is on 3 points in there first two years of driving to slow down and really take the piss with the speed limits . Its not even worth traveling 5Mph over the speed limit .

Iff you need your car as much as i do then you will be severly disadvantaged .

Drive safe guys

/\/\ shh your tired.

Wise words Stevie Davidson.

I have been there too, got 7 points for driving without due care and attention in my first 2 years, so had to resit my test. Its awful and just one of the worst things you can go through in your driving career IMO.

Stevie Davidson - Good luck for your court case hope its not too harsh and hope you are back on the road soon. :)

i'm 17, drive a 1.4 16v 6n and pay just over a grand for my insurance in my own name. I'm with quinn and when i done an online quote it was ridiculus but when i rang up it came to jus over the grand. All I can say is make sure you ring up! Well worth the phone call

It is fair really, say i got 6 points on my provisional, for whatever reason.

Then say you and me both passed at the same time and insured the same cars, i'd get bum-raped on my policy whereas yours would be alot cheaper.

Then say we both incurred 6 or more penalty points within like a couple months of driving, we'd both have our licenses revoked.

I would have already been punished by the 6 points that got carried over adding like a grand to my premium, then if we both got 6 or more, we'd be punished equally for it.

have never had my own insurance and i am 34.

company car = don't need to pay insurance/tax/mot/new car every 9 months free tyres....bonus.

could have bought a nice car though with what i pay a month for the privilage.

as for the polo,am a named driver on my wifes insurance but still accumilate no-claims bonus.

don't see the problem of being on parents/partners insurance if you are young and a safe driver.(if you can get it via your parents/partner) that is.

keeps the cost down cos it's just mental what people pay these days.

just my two cents :-D

well my bf had a mk2 fiesta and he was charged 1700 third party only for that. Now hes got an escort and both the cars are on policys in my name. So hes only payin 600 odd I think it is. It is a pain up the ass tho and really stupid. Wen I was insured on that fiesta mine third part fire and theft was only 500 were the sense in that?

  • 4 weeks later...

me 1l polo

2grand

and I'm only named

its cuz we went with gay norwich union who rip anyone and everyone off so i can get a year ncb whilst only being named

would of been cheaper to have it poutrite in my name gah

My insurance is £1300 on a 2002 6n2 Polo 1.0, fully comp on my mums insurance and i get my own now claims with Direct Line.

And i can do any mods i want aslong as it isnt to the engine :)

golly should of gone to direct line blah

mate i just got quoted 1300 for a 16v corrado and I'm 18 with 0ncb! my own policy ofcourse
