I'm with direct line, have been for about 2 years now (policy due for renewal april 3rd) and I've just put 15" alloy wheels on my corsa. My mum called earlier out of interest and they said that I can't have modifications until I'm 25 (I'm19) so basically I've just voided my insurance unless I put my steelies bak on.

Jus wondering if anyone else has had the same experience with direct line? Obviously I need to call them myself but was hoping to have a few scenarios to get some ideas of how to approach them

couldn't you just go to another insurer????

and say the alloys came with the car?

I am sure there are some insurers that allow modifications but i would even say alloys were a big deal

Under no circumstances will they let you. If i were you at 19 I'm fairly certian you could get a lower quote from someone like brentacre with mods declared rather than direct line without them. I left direct line after my first (and only) year with them as they were absolutley 100% against any sort of modifications. Grille, lights, air filter, de-badging- i asked about the lot! But, sadly- as is so often the case, when you remove a rear badge, you inevitably crash! apparenlty....

Id say switch insurers in april, explain you dont have/diddnt get the alloys in the end and your mum was just wondering etc...

Yeh they wouldn't touch me. And my mum turned around and said if I don't sort it in the next few days she will ring direct line and tell them what I've done to my car so they cancel my policy :( Shes so mean!

I've just renewed mine with norwich union, its went down from 80 quid a month to 67.

All mods insured inc wheels, exhaust, tinted windows, audio install and induction kit.

I'm 20 with 3yrs ncb.

Also got my mam 2nd driver (0 claims or points) and my lass on (she is 19, 0 ncb 0 points and liscence for 2 yrs)

Did you call them to declare all your mods? As I have done some quotes but theres no where I can state I have alloy wheels?

Read into Direct line, theres is a bunch of by-laws quoting prices and their relavence to the car value.

For example if I stuck some G60 steelies on my car, theoretically they are worth more, but are standard equipment on a VW model, under the value of £400.

Lots of little niggly things like this. I had a good guy on at direct line that got my insured for my exhausts on my Mk4 golf. He went through the route of an uprated cattalitic converter and free-er flowing exhaust.

It's weird what you'll find.
