HELP needed with radiator....

Featured Replies

Hi all. I just bought a new radiator from GSF for my GT, and it's 4" too small!!!

I phoned up and the chap there claims that the DVLA says that the rad i've got was fitted to GT's as standard...which can't be right as the mounting holes don't line up with the mounts at all!! He said that the next size up is for a 1W engine, but that they don't stock them....

Anyone else on here had the same problem, or know where i can get a new rad that will fit by the end of this week?!? (Don't say VVW as they are £101 without VAT!!!!!!)

Thanks all.

what is the width of your current rad? It wouldnt be the first polo I've seen which randomly has a 1W rad fitted from the factory.

What have the DVLA got to do with it? I've never heard of them keeping logs of what radiators were fitted to cars as standard!

Well, between the plastic mounts, its 524mm (roughly), which is what the chap on the phone said is the width of a 1W rad.

He said "Gimmie your reg. no. and I'll see" then disappeared for a few mins then came back with "According to the DVLA, the 3F engine was fitted with the rad you've got from the factory!"

I also thought that was a bit strange at the time.....

Well, VW have confirmed that i do indeed have a rad from the 1W engine, and they also informed me that they are no longer produced, so they would need to back-order one for me , which could take AT LEAST 7-10 days.... :retard:

Oh and that they want £110 +VAT from me.... :crybaby:

Thats a bit odd! Has this been fitted randomly, or could it have been done by a previous owner?

waste of time and money getting another 1W rad, just fit the standard GT/G40 one, it'll do the job just fine.

Like I say, it's not the first time a GT has turned up with a 1W rad fitted as standard, if I remember correctly one of the GT breadvans that Gaz has had over the years had one fitted.
