is there a thread any where discussing the removal of the black side strips on a mk 4 6N, Want to get rid of mine but apparatly you have to weld plates and then filler it n then spray it ect, just wondering what other people have done, someone even mentioned just spraying the strips the same colour as the car........ has anyone done this? and does it look good?

pretty sure its superglue tho so i hope it hasnt coroded the paint or ne fing like tht ....find out today i guess :)

Its not superglue, its spongy adhesive stuff and it won't have corroded the paint..Unless you're car is special

Mk 4 1997 1.4 16V........ i mean it could be possible for it to have had a door change but surely it would be another mk 4 which wouldnt have holes ??

a just took my strips off couple of weeks ago and never had any holes, tho i now have fecking door mark dents, so strips are back on, pissed off with inconsiderate drivers who disrespect others cars x

does my head in, i always park in 2 spaces too so no one can park next to me, yet when i come back there is always some idiot thats squeezed into the tiny space and would have had to crawl out his boot to get out, but no they fecking bash your dorr to peaces and dont care,.

so advice to anyone wanting to remove there strips, DON'T unless you have time and money to remove dents every fecking weekend x

My door has a huge dent from when the bumpstrips were ON. I always park over 2 spaces unless it's a packed carpark or one you have to pay for obviously.

Even park over 4 sometimes

Stuck them back on for the time being but for 500 quid I'm gettin the front bumper fixed (its split needs plastic weldin) sprayed, bonnet wings and sides sprayed, that includes takin off the strips and welding the holes fillin them ect......and i might be able to talk him into sprayin the roof for the same......

i got a 6n2 with holes. do mk4 doors bolt straight on? cheeper than having the holes filled. only the 1s in rear quarter

I had a mk4 golf before 99, it had holes exactly like that. the thing is its pretty easy to sort out you just do a simple tack weld on from teh back of the door (inside) and then filler, sand smooth, paint, laquer ta-da. easy enough.

or you can do a different one where instead of removing the strips sand them smooth paint and laquer them then reapply, you keep the nice lines of teh bump strips, have teh protection and you will if you put in enough time preparing them have super colour coded strips???
