it did rain alot yesterday night but how did the water get in?????

Could be a leaky sunroof, or could be a leaky door seal.

the sunroof area is fine no water patches

When I had a pool in the rear footwell turned out to be 2 things! rear lights letting water in as well as the door membrain behind the door card.

Does you are rear wash wipe work? if i press my stalk for the rear wash wipe i get a wet passenger side rear floor because there is a split in the pipe

hmm not a clue really then leaks can be a pain 2 find try door seals i guess if its only in the foot well is nowhere else wet? maybe its come from the boot area somewhere

yea only in the footwell. I've got another topic here stating what is a door membrane. i was told it could be something behind the door panel

ok id definatley consider making this a sticky ADMIN/MODERATORS...youre rear wiper spray wash doesnt work? if so this is why...

when VW made the mark4 they made a connection wire in the washer spray just behind the rear door card on the passanger side, this connection wire is way too short and comes unclipped if anyone pushes the rear seat back or adds pressure to the rear seat and over time it just comes undone anyway...mine had been leaking water for over 6 years but no rust as it was clean water...ruined my underside of the rear bench though...

it is a common fault but very hard to spot so nobody ever fixes it...you need to take the rear benhch out, rear boot card on passanger side back seat out, rear passanger side door card and then you will see where it is leaking from, you will need to get a piece of longer wire or preferably i used a screenwash cable from out of a ford escort from my local scrappys...get the new cable and cut it down to size and connect it back using the connector...bit hard to explain but I'm sure someone could explain it better... until then dont use ure rear wiper at all...

your new screenwash cable from another car, (try getting an escort or VW) will have a connector on it where you will push that on to the other piece of wire cut it down about a foot before that connector and push the connector over the existing piece of wire that leads from the engine bay to where the fault occurs...then push the old connector over the other end of your new screen wash cable where you vut it down...put interior back in and job done...this is a design fault by the way so will eventually happen on all of the earlier mark 4's...the fault may also happen on later mark 4's but i am unsure! sorry if that was hard to understand but i dont know how to explain it very well!

yes it is. i took the front speaker out an i could see some water. I've took it a garage an they said its your door membrane itll cost £10

my rear wiper dont spray? :( makes the spraying noise, the wiper moves but nothing comes out.. does that mean it may b leakin inside my car??

yes it does game oner...get it sorted ASAP! as said this really should be a sticky as its actually a fault that VW nerver bothered fixing...

lift ure back serat up and water will be there... or put ure hand on the passanger side floor in the back and it will be wet...

lol i kept on getting this in my Mk2, went to vw and they wanted £238 inc VaT for a new door seel set

lol just had a think and decided after taking out my carpets permantly to drill a hole in the floor, result : no more puddles lol mwahahahaha

I'm seriously thinking of that Phoenix, my boot and passenger door leak in my mk3. Considering stripping it out and drilling. If its the only way!
