all of a sudden the polo has started playing up, mainly when the revs are low and i accelarate slowly the car will judder then when i stop it will cut out, normaly starts back up fine but sometimes it then wudnt start for a min or so.

any ideas as its started driving me nuts.

just done the search and cant really find anything to relate to mine.

ok changed the alternator today, then took it out for a drive it was still the same,

i just took it out again and it was fine for about 30mins then after pulling in to a turning it started again, isnt cutting out any more just the juddering, its all most like someones switching the engine off for a second then turning it bak on,

any ideas? as its really bugging me now.

My GT's been doing a similar thing, and i've so far changed the plugs, leads, and blue temp sensor but its still doing it...

Last time i tried looking for an answer, i kept reading that it could be the lambda probe...so i'm going to change mine when i get some cash.

Mine too!! Grrrrrr, its costing me loads. So far replaced plugs, leads, distributor, blue temp sender, air flow meter. And the part I'm replacing tomorrow is the lambda probe. Posted up about this same problem a few times and most people say lambda. Mine sometimes runs a bit smoother when i unplug the afm????? Dunno why but it seems to lessen the roughness of the drive.

Ill keep yous posted and will let u know if the lambda sorts it.

would vag.com be able to find out if its a faulty lambda?

try cleaning all the earth straps in the engine bay, my NZ had a similer problem ages ago last year, i cleaned the straps and it has been fine since. dont cost anythign to do either.

looks like changing the alternator has solved the problem, just took a while for the ecu to realise

My 9n has just started doin this, really annoying!!!!

think i spoke to soon its now doing it again, not as bad or as often but its back

Found out what my problem was in a bad way, stuck on the side of the motorway, broke down, it turned out 1 of my cylinder coils had blown, now i hav 2 drive round in a ka courtesy car lol

Hmmmmmmm, well i replaced the lambda probe with a bosch fellae and yet again the problem is still there!! Cleaned the earth straps at the same time but didnt help unfortunately........... I thought that there might be fault codes on my ecu thats keepin it runnin badly, is there any easy way of clearing these? What does leavin the battery disconnected overnight do?

Its still really lumpy at times and sometimes feels as though somethings holdin it back, also doesnt want to idle when the cars stopped and cuts out occasionally,

disconnecting the afm seems to prevent this.

Any more ideas????

must b the afm then I'm guessing?? if u disconnect it and its ok then that must b a faulty afm

noisey fuel pumps are normal nothing to worry about on a mk3 polo

Last week i had a leaking crank shaft seal, it put alot of oil on the alternator and killed it. Main problem apart from the battery not charging was when i started the car it would not idle. Was okay if kept my foot on the throttle but as soon as it came to trying to idle on its own it just died. anyway lots of brake cleaner in the alternator and a general clean up of the connections and the earth its sorted!

DOes it have golf or standard afm? if its the golf gti item, then it will need setting up, It might be worth making a manometer or getting a cheap vacuum guage to set afm up better.

Its a standard gt afm, but I've already replaced it before and it made no difference. The plug that connects on the side of it, does that go direct to the ecu? I thought that could maybe be faulty.

Ill check the alternator because I did have a slight oil leak just above the alternator

I've ran out of dosh again so its gonna have to be a bodge job if anything, until the end of the month.

ok mines got alot worse, after 5mins of driving it judders like made then cuts out, starts up after a few secs then it will judder and die again, idles fine tho, if you slowly rev the car on tick ova it will sometimes judder abit, but no where near as bad when you driving.

its making the car impossible to drive, cant rely on it to get anywhere, cuts out when i slow down for a speed bump's so i end causing mile long tail backs :( :(

Just a hunch, but try once its warmed up disconnecting the afm!

Mines was really bad tonight again, REALLY bad, id pull away from a round about and look as if i had about 5seconds of driving experience it was juddering that bad!!!!

BUTT! when i disconnected the afm, doesnt do it anywhere near as much if at all!! very weird but definitely worth a shot as a temp fix.

Has to be once its warmed up.

ALSO noticed that my filler neck is completely fecked! around the bottom where it joins the tank, it was soaked in petrol and there was a puddle of petrol on the ground!!!

Overall been a good day driving today. haha.
