dont want to sound silly but whats the potentiometer thingy and the hall sender? Cheers

The potentiometer is connected to the Throttle Body, and the Hall sender is the black plastic thing that stick out of the dizzy and a plug goes in to it.

ok cars been running fine for a couple of days, but today its started playing up again, it will manily start juddering in fifth at half throttle, I've noticed that the fuel pump/fuel filter bracket has snapped from its mount do you think that it knocking around has done any damage to the pump?

Had the same problems with mine! Changed the coil, blue temp sensor, and distributor cap then my bro adjusted the ignition timing. I also put the idle up a lil bit and it seems to be running fine now! Fingers crossed tho only drove it home from a mates house, will see if its really sorted 2moro on the way to work lol

Carn't see it being that i was running a 1.3 CL pump for a week or so and would sit all day at 80 without jerking. Only difference was slight hesitation when flooring it.

Suppose pump could be fooked and be putting out low pressure or maybe intermitent failure?

Have you checked the lift pump (Tank One)

Mine did this alot recently before trying replacing stuff i just got some of that full fuel system cleaner (bit half arsed i know) which worked. haven't been drivin it much recently so could start again but i spose its worth a go for 15 squid.

Well mine has gone back to playing up again. Doesnt cut out whilst I'm sat anymore but does when i'm driving grrrr! anyone got any other ideas at all? I've changed the dizzy cap, blue temp sensor and coil.

iam going to run i perment live to the fuel pump and see what that does, just incase theres a break or something in the wiring.

iam still stuck everything I've tried hasant worked, any ideas people?

Aint got any ideas for u bud, but my cars booked into vw next wednesday and from what ure saying u seem to be gettin the same problem as me iirc. So ill let u know what those guys say, they better fix it at £70.44 an hour!! All out of ideas so its gotta be done. :(

yeah not looking forward to paying out big labour costs, think iam just ganna but a cheap gt to use for parts, just have to keep swapping different parts over till i fix it,

any more ideas people? intill i find a nice cheap gt.

had it in at a VW dealership and they had a look at the car but then told me to go see a vw specialist!!!!

wtf...................

Sounds about right. Anything over 3 years old and most people at VW switch off.....

check the fuel lines are on accumilator ins to ins and out to out

check the fuel lines are on accumilator ins to ins and out to out

yeah they seem to be on fine.

the tank return to top on accumilator facing forward

tank to accumilator middle facing foward

return from injector rail to bottom of accumilator facing forward

outlet at rear of accumilator to hi pressure pump

make sure that pipes to injector rail are correct return pipe is connected to pressure regulator and pipe from pump is onto black pipe on injector rail

then check you have a spark let me know if you have or have not

The specialist tuned a few things on mine and cleared all the fault codes and it seems to run pretty sweet (touch wood) VW didnt have the "equipment" to do this!!!

Still fairly whiffy on the petrol front when I'm sittin at lights though, dunno if its still overfuelling.

Passed its mot today woop woop!!!

Right, I had a similar problem in mine.

Basically, wouldnt idle properly sometimes and cut out. Didnt have the correct dizzy on so changed that, didnt fix the problem (needed doing anyway)

Changed my fuel filter, which was full of shit. Seemed to run better but still would die on idle sometimes.

Turned out that the timing was out, got a mate with a timing light and got it sorted. PROBLEM GONE!

So my suggestion if you haven't tried already, get your timing checked
