Hello to all members, my names bill I'm 17 and soon to be driving !!, got recently recommended towards volkswagens and funnily enough recomended to getting a 1.0 polo as a first car, steered away from chav spec fiestas and corsas ( why I'm here. for your help ! ) read a few reviews on different sites and it sounds all good. I'm on the look out at the moment and hope to end up with something soon.

does anybody want to share any of their oppinions or advice on what i may need to look out for or add or modify when i eventually own a 1 litre, anything i may need to consider. ?

am well from owning and driving my mk3loon which is a 1 litre i would say that , them not being slow , they still aint fast lol -

I would suggest looking trying all the different models on the insurance websites.

The 1.3 was actaully cheaper to insure than the 1.0l for me on admiral a few years ago so it is worth checking around, the 1.3 is slow, but it's nippy. The 1.0l has the power of a pencil sharpener, the fuel economy on a 1.0l isn't any better either, you need a heavier foot to get it anywhere. I found the 1.3's to give better fuel economy.

After owning many different Mk2 and Mk2F polo's I would recommend a hydro head mk2 coupe S.

The coupe shape is more pleasing to the eye and don't look like your grandad's cast off when mod'd

The mk2 is generally cheaper to buy and insure, it is a more solid car as standard, slightly nippier feel and the carb's are easy to maintain, also a webber carb can be had for about £100 and that makes a big difference to fuel economy, throttle response and noise with little affect to the insurance, the carb itself didn't affect the insurance price, only the air fitler.

The coupe S has the large arch kit, bolstered seats, rev counter, black roof liner and the top trim. Insurance group 4 of 5 IIRC and they have the 3rd best re-sale value of all old Polo's.

MK4 1.4 polo, do your pass plus and you should be paying around a grand for your insurace!

The pass plus comment is a very good suggestion actually. I was a fool for not taking it a few years ago, everyone I knew that took it had their insurance halved, even now, 5 years down the line they are still seeing benefits.

Maybe because of the cheaper starting grounds.

....is cheaper than mine.....

Male accident 21/01/2005 (just a few days left of declaring that YES!) not at fault claim £1,000, 2 years NCB no convictions licence held for 4 years and 8 months.

.....by more than half on my car, that is with a large number of insurance companies, ask the question of why, the answer is, she is femal, so less likely to cause an accident (well the info above speak for itself) and she took pass plus, so she is a more qualified driver.
