As some might know I am currently doing a Mk2 GT conversion and having a issue with the coolant header tank. My Mk2 one doesn't have the sensor so I though I'd use the Mk3 one but I have no idea how to secure it. So I was just wondering if anyone had any pic's/ideas on how theirs were done. Its currently being held on pikey style with cable ties!! :)

I just used the mk2 one and left the sensor unplugged.

I suppose you could cut off the mk3 mounting bracket and weld it onto the mk2 bulkhead.

A mk2 Golf GTI/Scirocco header tank might fit better than the mk3 tank. These have the coolant level sensor in too.

I just used the Mk.2 tank and left the wiring unconnected. No problems as a result

With regard to the small bore pipe from the tank, run this to the radiator as per Mk.2 and block off the pipe that comes out of the thermostat housing. VW even do a purpose made bung just for this job. The pipe from the bottom of the tank needs to correspond with whichever tank you decide to use(mk.2 tank with mk.2 pipe etc...)

Mark, I wanted to make everything look O.E. under the bonnet on mine (except the engine!), so I've drilled through the spot welds on the mk3 expansion tank bracket and put that on the turret in place of the mk2 washer bottle bracket. Then I put the mk3 washer bottle where it would normally go on a mk3. If you see what I mean!

Yea bodge up a bracket, paint it black if it's ugly and bobs yer uncle

I will be securing the mk3 header tank into my brothers Mk2 Gt tomorrow so when i'm done I will take a pic for you.
