Modified and Custom are the same thing aint they?

Modified is more bolt on bits i would have thought, custom is well yeh, custom.

modified is pretty much buying things from places that are available to everyone for their cars. whereas custom is something you design which is unique and one off.

modify is like having a new bumper or new alloys and customising is when you have a bumper but you customise it like a 16v bumper then smoothing it and alloys when you colour code them or something

Being a lot older than most of you on here, the word "customise" sends shivers down my spine!

I hate the word, big time! Thing is when I was younger, it was all the rage to "customise" your car. This more often that not meant metalflake paintjobs, murals on the bonnet, big flared wheel arches with big fat high profile tyres and furry or draylon interiors! (Really showing my age!)

So I still automatically think custom is more to do with bodywork alterations ie, smoothing, flushed tailgates, shaved handles and non standard paint work etc etc. I have never liked this sort of thing - even when I was young.

**The only exception is when cars are fitted up with motorsport orientated arches, spoilers and wheels. For instance, on a mk1-2-3 Polo the Berg Cup kit looks the fucking business IMO.

"Modify" on the other hand to me always means modifying the mechanical side of things ie, the engine, transmission, brakes and suspension etc. I consider my car to be heavily modifed, but only under the skin. From the outside it still looks like any other old mk2 breadvan, albeit in exceptional condition.
