To cut a long story short, I've destroyed the paint work on the driver's side front door of my Polo with 1500 grit wet and dry paper.

I used it wet on the door in a circular motion, and as a result there are fine scratches all over the paintwork. From a distance it looks "dirty", if you see what I mean.

Aside from paying £200 to have it resprayed, what can I do to make it look better?

If it has to be resprayed, can anyone recommend an inexpensive bodyshop in the Birmingham area?

Sponges give such a better result!

Have you tried using a buffer n T-cut!

I know, I know. Was doing my first and last attempt at DIY spraying. Read some instructions wrong and "prepped" the wrong bit of door.

is that the cutting compound stuff?

try using some light cutting compound (most of the scratch removers will do fine) and using a powered buffer (also known as a mop) to cut the laquer back gently until the scratches fade then use a good polish to bring back the shine and finaly wax to protect.

yeah buff with G3 as long as you'v not gone through the clear coat or paint it'll be fine

it would depend on the colour of the car

if it's silver not a chance i would be getting a single manal repainted it needs to be blended into the other surrounding panals

Maybe... what are the details?

Go over it with some 2000 wet and dry to flat it out and then compound / glaze / polish. It may need machine buffing out though.

Right il have to get a map and draw on the location for you I'm not too sure of the garages name but have seen alot of there work and have had quatations myself .

Iff i find the location on the map and the street name I'm sure i will be able to find the company name and contact details .

Alternatively get a Skoda then use any grade of paper U like and still get a good nights sleep!!!

the bit thats sanded down might go back to colour when you laquer it ? well thats my experiance from sanding with fine paper and then laquered. but you should be able to polish it out with somethings like the t-cut range or 'mers'.

Otherwise cant you just get a can from halfords ? :p

t-cut an elbow grease or use it with a buffer.

is it flat or metalic?

should come up fine agin as long as it not metalic an you've gone through the laquer.

haha, i don this on my white mk4, so i just decided to rub it all down and paint it matt black with a roller, didnt like that so i rubbed it all down again and spray painted it gloss black with rattle cans, lol.

poor car.
