Best way to learn how a car behaves if you don;t have the money to take it to the right places and learn properly. Just as long as there aren't any walking slalom poles around I managed to get a cone wedged under the subframe of one of my cars pratting about in a carpark. Took me ages to get the thing out, It lifted the back end slightly so there was little weight on the rear tyres and it just slid like a slidy thing on shiny stuff

have never had burning clutch before whilst drifting.

shouldnt need to use it tbh. balance the car with the throttle and handbrake.

you generally only use the clutch if you want to snap the back end out on a rwd car by banging the clutch in and out quickly.

unless your clutch was burning as it cant handle the wheels spinning.lol which is more than likely!

i do miss the days of drifting in tescos car park when it was empty! mates now do it round empty roundabouts. they are using proper drift cars now though like 200sx's etc. still i got the focus to drift nicely when i had it. i dont know whether you can call it technically drifting of sliding really.

I remember 'drifting' in Macdonald's car park when it was wet here, was a right laugh.

Ruined the handbrake cable though :p

My favourite's low traction braking. Do 20 mph, stamp the brakes then see how close to the bollards you can make it stop.

Putting a FWD car sideways on the handbrake is fun, but there's not a lot of skill needed, the precision stuff is far more interesting. The best start point is to drive in an oval round two cones and slowly up the speed until you feel it start to slide a bit, up the speed a bit more, and see how easy you can catch it.

fair play mate, i'd much rather youngsters get a grip of their cars in an empty car park than doing it any where near my car. empty car parks are even more fun when maccy-d's trays are involved apparently

you might actually learn how to control a car should it ever spin out. It will probably save your life if you ever needed to use it, and probably save your car too

It's been icey here recently. I went for a little burl in the GT round a deserted industrial estate round about...good fun at very low speeds. Lucky if I even managed 10mph. Nice to get a feeling for slip at such low speed. Can do quite a neat 180 parallel park now. As long as people are being sensible I don't have anything against a little slip and slide in the snow. Just don't do it on the road or at higher speeds.

Yes people brand you as a chav, rip the piss all you like folks, but how many of us haven't enjoyed a spot of 'chav driving' at least once. Its fun, exciting esp when you've only just got your licence, and it can teach you about your car too. I disagree with drifting round busy roundabouts etc, but in an environment that won't harm anyone else or their stuff, then why not!

I used to love doing reverse 180 turns in the snow on a nice big carpark a huge one infact ..

After lots of practice i managed to get it smooth and fluent

I would never drive dangerously on the road though . Wouldnt want to hurt the poor car ..

I remember taking my old squareback up a deserted lane in the snow and spending about an hour sliding up and down it just getting a feel for the car and what it could do. My mate was with me in a fiesta, he managed to smash up the front end something rotten! Moral of the story... buy a polo!

I did the same, I've only been driving for 2-3 months, gotta get it over and done with some time lol.

We had an enormous empty wet car park, get to about 40mph then just whack the hand brake on and see what happens lol.
