that may well be true, but in real terms i didnt think it suited the engine at all. it had oodles of low down grunt, yet at 70-75 in top gear it was running close to 4k. the rst of the gearing was fine, just could have done with a longer 5th imo

Many would say that's the natural home of any HK engined Coupe S. I've had mine up there once or twice, the first time I put it down to having a different gearbox on but an original speedo. The second time I had the sat nav in to check it against, it was overreading a fair bit, but not as much as I thought. I stopped doing it after that.

Off The clock is easily achievable

But when its pictured like that in reality I'm only doing 95

100-105 is the wall for my little 1.3 using the good old GPS

I normally fill up before I get to that little marker.

The one thing I never understood is these people who put £5/10 in there car. Your going to just have to keep going back more often than if you just fill it up once and be done with it

Had my mk2 1.0l off the clock like that BUT it was down a hill with back wind and i doubt i was doing anything over 100! Looked good though and scared the shit out my mate!

Off the clock is possible in anything I've had my mum's V8 Discovery off the clock and they go up to 130 lol, but it was running quite small tyres at the time!

Can't be right, trust me, even a standard 1.3 SPI should do more than that. Maybe your speedo was under-reading?

Possibly, my speedo under-reads by about 2mph according to satnav, but tyre sizes are stock. This was a long time ago though (over 2 years) and when I hadn't had it for long so maybe it wasn't in the best state of service. I'm used to it being slow now though and never go above 70 in an effort to conserve my license and fuel!

the fact it has one gear less doesnt mean it wont go as fast! its all down to how the ratios are set out!

What 4 speed box is that? Rev limiter in 4th (6500 rpm) read just off the clock on a 1.0 box for me - but there was about 10% speedo error according to GPS.

box is out of a golf....

its set up so mint gives proper aggressive shifts LOVE IT!

Probably the same box I have in my 1.3 Mk2 Golf right now then. I like the ratios in it, but fook me I could do with a 5th gear, it pulls 4th from 20 up to triple figures

Don't forget to fold your seats flat kids. Better weight distribution and more power.

My mk2 1.3 with a Weber 32/34 DMTL could get that far.

My 1.0l Mk3 with a fair few mods was clocked at 115Mph on my clocks and 125Mph on a fellow polo's GT Clocks which he said were 10Mph out this was on the flat after a hill but it would happily sit at a ton on the motorway and accelerate away from it .. well speed up i wouldnt call it accelarate . Diddnt drive this fast very often at all i just diddnt believe my clocks so wanted a fellow member to drive alongside me and check ..

I wont be speeding around at all though .. Silly thing to do ..

aah but carrying less fuel about with you means your car is lighter and you use less fuel, or something like that. I just don't like spending more than a tenner at a petrol station unless I'm going far away, it feels like I'm spending money for nothing.

It aint like petrol is cheaper in bulk, it just means you're buying a load of petrol in one hit when you may need the extra dosh the next day. Plus the car always looks ace under petrol station lighting.

Quoted for LIES. If you use a consistant amount of petrol a month, then it's cheaper to buy it in one hit as you don't have to keep making the station journey. If you're likely to need to spend X amount of fuel before paydays, it only makes sense to fill up. How would sticking in £5 increments save money? If you want to save money, drive your car less. Filling up is one way of doing this.

Plus it costs me about £3-4 to get to and from my nearest Shell garage in the 40.

i put as little fuel into my car as possible as i'd rather spend the money on other things later that day/week

if i have money left over/need to buy some more petrol then so be it another trip to the petrol station not like its hard. they're bloody everywhere lol

It depends on your journey type and where the petrol stations are. If you drive round town a lot then getting the extra fuel moving will use more fuel in itself, so filling up a fiver at a time will mean you have less weight of petrol to get moving every time, and use less fuel to do so! Of course if your petrol station is £4 away from any regular journeys then you're right! And if you drive out of town where you stay moving for more than 30 seconds at a time then it's not so much of a problem.

I was lucky and had to drive past a petrol station whichever way i go to work so would wack a fiver in each mornin gon the day to work and then around £20 for a weekend .. Then again i did only travel 15miles a day

So does the GTI! That way i might see better than 33mpg!

If 47 MPG is achievable in a GTI, wonder what you could get with a 6th gear

how on earth do you get 47mpg from a mk5 gti?!

Driving like a O.A.P probably at 55 mph!

The most i've seen out of a full tank in mine is 310!

That works out to be 35.26 mpg!

polo mark 2 1 litre i on average get aboutt 36-40mpg

itll reac 75mph downhill with a wind behind it

i fill it up all the way if it goes below half i fill it up but I'm rate picky bout where i fill up i always go to the cheapest i can find I'm tht sad
