Any way round it, what if i get indicators in the mirrors? god damn hate MOT's!!!!!

Not true..........

As long as the front indicators can be seen flashing from the side of the car at a rate of 60-120 times a minute as an orange colour then it will pass. I am an MoT tester by the way :smirk:

Awesome, so i don’t have to get those ugly mirrors with the great big indicators in!?

So would you pass a mk4 polo with standard front lights and indicators but the side repeaters removed?

Think some garages might be funny about it!! Don’t want to do all the welding and smoothing if I’m fucked for MOT!?

oh yea i know that as long as you can see them from the side, but I'm pretty sure that polo indicators cannot be seen from the side. was answering the question with respect to it being done on a polo. hence why you'd need a friendly MOT'r that'll say they can see it enough from the side :-D

My mate picked up a set of those horrible mirrors with the indicators in the side for like a tenner because his mk2 doesn't have side repeaters. Just swaps them over for MOT time and then bangs his normal ones back on.

But what happens if you get pulled by the boys in blue, just plead ignorance??

I get my gt on the road soon and as you can see there is no side repeters on my car so if I get stopped buy pc plod and he says that there ok or not ok then club polo will be the first to know about it ;)

The trouble with the MoT is it is law to have one but some things that pass the MoT are not within the law!!

For example> You could weld a bloody great big knife to the roof of your car and as long as the tester can test the car without fear of harm to him/herself and it is secure then it would be a pass and advise!!!!!

Sharp edges will only fail if they are due to damage or corrosion and they can harm passers by!!!

The MoT is a funny old thing that doesn't make sense sometimes> Your average car that can take 5 people will pass with 1.6mm of tread on the tyres, a minibus that can take 16 people only needs 1mm of tread to pass. How does that make sense??

Just remembered, you can present a car with no lights at all and declare that it is used in daylight hours only, madness

Ok so just to clear things up if I remove the side repeaters and get some door mirrors with indicators in will it 100% pass MOT?? (and then take them off once its passed) :ninja:

The mk6 polo has no wing repeaters but indicators in the door mirrors so it must be ok, yea??

Yep, it'll pass if you have the wing mirrors with inbuilt indicators on at the time of test. What happens to the car after that is not the testers concern

Just get the wire from under the wing stick in an orange bulb and tape it on to the wing thats what my mate does with his corrado and he also sticks a fog light on his parcel shelf it passes everytime

i've got 2 wholes in the bonnet to pop the indicators back out instead pf the wing.... passed las time!

Shit do I need fog lights to pass MOT??? (thought they were just a bit of a luxury, not all cars have them right??)

They have gone already front bumper is all smoothed over ready for spraying!!

Thats interesting ! I thought that any car after 1985 has to have side repeaters to pass an MOT

rear foglight is a requirement on all modern cars, front aren't

  • 3 weeks later...

Previous owner of my old car used to take side repeaters to the wing mirrors iirc every mot and then just take them off and hide the cables!

Just keep the wiring there, and come MOT day hang the wire round the edge of the wing, and tape down the bulb and hey presto you have a side repeater.

could u nt somehow mount the side repeater in the frnt inner arch?

could u nt somehow mount the side repeater in the frnt inner arch?

you mean in the wheel arch? I suppose you could, you'll just have to watch out for the wheel hitting it if you go over a pothole or speedbumps. Depends on how much/if you have lowered the car?

run the wires under you bonnet.. buy some motorbike side repeaters n connect. come mot time tape the wires down the side of you wing n tape repeaters on. will show as temporary side repeaters on you mot but will pass.

hope that makes sense.. ;)

david.

on a mark 4 the front indicators are clearly visible from the side therefore it is not essential to have side repeaters,

as evidence my mate has his smoothed and the MOTer failed him on 7 things, including a hoola hanging from the rear view mirror... but there was no mention of the side repeaters.

any vehicle after 1973 is required to have a rear fog light, it's the reversing light which is not essential, only if it is not fitted though, any light on the vehicle must work.

Yea that’s exactly what I was planning on doing......

But what the insurance implications of this, does this mean when I remove them my insurance is void, because the car no longer complies with MOT law????

it does comply with the MOT law :s alot of people here are talking about mrk 3s, the dront indicator on a mark 4 comes round the side of the car alot more than a mark 3, just let the insurance the they are smoothed out and your insurance will be fine.
