Leons Red G40

Leons red G40

Model: MK3 POLO G40

Engine:

Rebuilt 1275cc supercharged G40 engine, with head skimmed

Stage 4 Jabbasport charger rebuild

Superchips chip

Superchips 68mm pulley

Jabbasport induction kit

Jetex Exhaust system

Ported polished & de-wedged throttle body

majorly ported and polished inlet manifold

Suspension:

VenomMotorsport kit that came with the car, but not sure how low it is. If anyone has an idea let me know please...

Brakes:

G40 standard brakes with GT carriers, fresh disks & pads

Wheels and Tyres:

15" golf BBS wheels with 195,45,15 tyres.

Now have 13x7 Starmags on it.

Exterior Styling:

Front & back bumpers colour coded with a chrome strip and top halves satin black, arches cills also sprayed satin black, door cills went satin black too, clear front indicators and side repeaters, debaged grill, delocked boot with a smooth boot plinth, aero wipers, Bullet ariel.

Polished and engraved handle inserts thanks to kam, with a small black pinstripe from the front arch to the back lights which really finishes it off i think, 80s 90s look.

Took the badges off the boot and welded a plate in their and smoothed it off.

German plates and wolfsburg tuning surrounds, now have legal english plates on it!

Interior Styling:

A few small amateur pimpin bits done so far like white dials, green Leds, Isotta steering wheel, VW motorsport gear knob. I've taken the back seats out as i hardly carry passengers and who wants extra weight! My main priority was the exterior now thats nearly done I'm going to ply board the rear out with 6mm ply and put black carpet in to reduce the noise and generally tidy it all up.

ICE and Security:

Mul-T-Lock, its a hardened steel bracket which is bolted or welded into the floor and locks the car into reverse gear so no theiving scumbags can steal your pride and joy.

The boot is delocked and I'm fitting a solenoid in very soon, I've also got a central locking kit going on when i get a nice warm sunny day to do it.

Toad imobiliser and Vecta alarm.

Comments:

Basically ever since i went in a friends G40 i wanted to get one, so i spent about 6 months saving and looking for one, once i had the cash i found one up in newcastle which is quite a way from me as I'm as far south as you can possibly get.

I really wanted it so i ended up getting a coach up their overnight and driving it back the next day. Bit of a misson but its all good fun!

I paid £1300 for it back in june 07. The bodywork was a bit shabby to say the least, arches hanging off, very faded red paintwork, dented doors missing wing mirror and black front wings! But it had just had a engine and charger rebuild with a few extra bits like suspension, exhaust and induction kit with the bbs 15s put on which are a bit big for the car i think. So my next plan is to fit starmags on it which finishes off the exterior, ply and carpet the interior then a bit of engine work. Buy a spare charger and rebuild it myself, 58mm pulley, 250k sensor, remapped chip and a oil pressure regulator.

Since i got it I've used it as a daily driver doing 40miles a day to and from work and it hasnt let me down since, only problem I've had was an exhaust rubber snapped and it cost me a pound to fix it! Its done just over 144k but that doesnt put me off because the engine was rebuilt 9000 miles ago and i love it!

Car looks damn sweet Leon!! In all honesty I'm not sure whether I like the colour coded mirrors or not (just a personal preference) but the colour coded bumpers and boot plymth and that look fantastic!! You have the exact number plate surrounds I just ordered from DubMeister. The silver striping looks great, the car looks spotless!! Top marks on the work youve made a car almost 20 years old look brand new!!

Soon as i saw some i thought i want them!

13s are soo much better compared to the 15s that came with the car, its goes quicker and handles better too

Come a long long way since you coming to pick up the starmags mate,

Really impressed with the out come.

Well played

Liking what you've done with that, and the starmags work nicely 8-) .

Know the feeling mate!! I'm just glad I'm not on the road yet cause then I'd be forced to finish the lowering job on my car I began, and the working daily followed by pissing rain on days off is not helping is it?!

sweet mate, looks the tits on the starmags, i love them from my mini days and they look smart on the olops. steering wheels a bit marmite but your car is mint

i always thought you had a rally spec g40 from your avatar thing

I've always wished i had a rally spec g40!

Steering wheel was going cheap with a boss so i brought it, they sell brand new for about 3 times the amount i paid for it.

no worries, a nice momo team would look sweet, whos is the clio? is it a williams, as its got a bit of a bonnet bulge going on

  • Author

Thats my mate liams clio, its just a 1.8 16v but they all have bonnet bulges like that. He sold it last week, hes seen the light and is getting a 1.8t golf.

I've got 2 other mates with williams clios. One of thems getting turbo`d and should hopefully be one of the quickest in the country! Soon as he pulls his finger out and gets it finished ill post pics up of it and vids!

Even tho its french, you gotta admire the work hes putting in!

Yeah the William's are godlike little Clio's. Mate of mine has a base Clio mk1 (phase 2) and was wondering what he'd have to do to make it look like a GTI, when I told him the arches, wings, bonnet, bumpers, wheels and fit phase 1 headlamps he changed his mind very quickly lol. The colour scheme on the Williams are great. How does the G40 pit against a standard Williams?

haven't been up against the williams but its quicker than the 1.8 16v clio

I dont think it would do too bad, the williams are 150bhp standard and I've gotta get mine on the rolling road soon to see what mines pushing out.
