its mars red. it is a bit orangey, but i think its exaggerated by my shoddy camera on my phone

I'll get to a scrappy monday and find a dizzy off a 1.3, but i'll also get the one off the 1.6 too. just to be safe. I've already got an ignition module and associated wiring. Its wired to my current dizzy, but it probs isn't doing anythin as it turns out! haha

I've got a couple pics of the front (one being my current avatar...) but the previous owner had an unfortunate encounter with a hedge which has left me with a rather wobbly front panel and cracked paint :( I'll be replacing it when time/funds allow, the important thing was to get it mechanically sounds and working first

sounds like you need dizzy and ignition module and wiring from a late mk2 mh c plate onwards then you will have the advance and retard

I think that would work, I'm running mk2 golf 1600 loom, coil, amplifier etc to get rid of the management, but still using the AEE dizzy.

ok, well i think i've got all the wiring, i'll just get the AEE dizzy. shame no scrappies are open tomorrow :( I could do with having the car on monday to go to college. maybe i'll call past the scrappy on the way in... i'll go armed with tools and a timing light and replace the dizzy when i get to college

i found keep an allen key on hand and go for a ragging and keep fiddling with it, i set mine up for a higher octane fuel, u can definetely tell the difference.

yeah thats not a bad idea. i'll probs do it by the book initially, then have a little play and see what happens...

aee dizzy is bascially same as u have now mate. u need one from a mk2 golf 1.3, mk2 polo or mk3 nz engine with a little flyin sourcer on it. That will control advance and retard of timing.

motor looks sweet mate. idle and rev issue sounds like it needs different size jets.

Just to clear something up, the little black box I'm talking about is not the hall sender. It's the TCI module as I said.

You need the dizzy from a mk2 so it has the mechanical advance features, with your current dizzy i dont believe theres any ignition advance happening so therfore your having the issues

yeah thats basically what i thought.

I can set the timing so that it idles, but wont rev, or so that it will rev but not idle. pretty sure the fuelling having an effect is just a red herring, i wont know till i rule out the timing being an issue.

That won't work as it fits the early mechanical heads and not the later hydro head as you have.

As previously said, the dizzy you need has to come from an '86 - '90 Mk.2 Polo or small block Golf, or an NZ engined Mk.3 Polo.

just got back from collecting it :( realised when i got there that it was the wrong type. Got it anyway as it was free. but two hour round trip! grrr... need the car tomorrow!!

ooh i really like this!!! i like the idea of making my mk2 into a bit of a sleeper but thought it was a struggle getting decent sized blocks in the lil bay, now i know otherwise

what car do you get the engine out of that you have used?

this engine was actaully from a Skoda, but its code is AEE which is found across the VAG range between around '95 and '99 (approx)

I'm just having a mare trying to find a distributor at the moment :(

Looks like its an absolute beast!! (in a good way) U should stick on the mk2 black front and rear bumpers tho, the back end is a tad too smooth for my liking!! Nice car but!

cheers Chris! i was thinkin about going back to bumpers to make it a little more sleeper, but all the mouting holes have been smoothed/removed :(

i took a pic of the front this morn as it was the first time that i'd had the bonnet AND the grille on. I'll post it up later. but i'll forewarn you that the front panel is a bit of a mess :(
