Ok now I've been thinking about the future and what it holds for me as a driver.

A brief outline of my situation:

I'm currently 16, and own a 1.0l polo will will cost me just under 1k to insure, this will be my first car and then kept as a weekend car and everything upgraded.

In 3/4 Years I want to buy a big car. It will be used to trek the motorways of the country to and from Cornwall on pretty much a monthly basis, and then wherever I need to go to find bits for my Olop. So mileage will be racked up. by this time ill be 19/20 and hopefully have 2/3years no claims, which enables engine sizes to go up. I don't mind disease-alls or their petrol equivalents.

My preference:

Id love a current model Vw Passat, or its Audi brother-in-law the A4. Anyone own one? And what do we think about prices in the 3/4 years ill be buying it.

Autotrader turns out prices between

£9999 and £27000 for the passat.

and

£16,495 and £37,450 for the A4

whats the better option in your opinions.

I think differently, I like to plan ahead.

i wouldn't think so far ahead because u might change your mind next week, i spent about 2 years convinced i wanted a mini as my first car I'm 16, 17 soon and i have a mark3 1l and i love it. u will change your mind in 3 years so leave it for now mate.

It's great to have something to aim for but like everyone else is saying, you're thinking a bit far ahead. If it was me, I would just keep an eye on the car scene/market for now and save as much as I could so that I'm ready to make a good choice when it's time. Nearer the time, make a list of your requirements and see what cars are available which meet them.

VW/Audis generally don't make a good nearly new second hand buy. What you want is a Jag

thats exactly what i wanted to here.

Ill never buy a new car, they are way overpriced for what they are.

But,

Its always nice to have something big and comfy.

I dont even think about what car i want in a year but i do change my mind a lot

Check what prices are now for simiar models that are 2/3 years old. And what they were 2/3 years ago brand new. Then youve got a similar price drop of what these new ones will drop

I'm biased, but get a Camry. Handling isn't great, but they cost bugger all, go forever, are comfy as anything and will sit at a speed that will lose you your license all day long without breaking a sweat.
