Straight swap. Should change the tappets and cam shells really but you'll probably get away with not doing it.

New cam belt is a must.

yeh, ill be putting a new belt on it anyway, its a bit tappy so gonna check the tappets while I'm at it.. are they hydraylic? is the pully the same ?

forgot to add, what kind of power increase will i get from this? i doubt it'll be alot but its gotta be better thn the 44bhp odd its got lol

The tappets are hydrualic (sp) and I used the same pulley for the GT cam as the 1.0 cam used.

Is it me or is everyone shoving a GT cam in their 1.05's at the moment?

TBH folks it wasn't the mod I found most improvement with.

What would be the best to do, to gain more power out the engine ?

I did three mods at the same time along with a service, that gave me the most improvement. You have to realise though its a 15 year old 1043cc engine designed to be driven by your granny, so its never going to be a speed machine.

Fair enough Tobyk got his RR'd at 60.9bhp with similar mods to mine and steviedavidson had a 1.05 with a few mods which was apparently pretty nippy but tbh I think we just got lucky.

The 3 mods I did first off were 1.4 throttle body, ignition timing well advanced and de-cat.

All that with a full service did make a difference but it still was a slow car.

Wheres the best place to buy these for a GT?

The tappets? Ebay funnily enough, in my experience anyway.

just whack a full GT head with MPI injection on it! need ecu and loom though, it worked well for me! But mines 1.3 so its going to be faster anyway.

Why not just put a GT engine in? If you dont mind me asking

Have a search on the site but many things can be done to a mk3 1.0l ..

Throttle Body Mk3 Golf 1.Spi

Spi From Mk3 Golf 1.8 Spi

Dewedge Throttle Body

Exhaust

Strip out everything from car to make it light

Poloace Chip to raise rev limiter

Port & Polish .

I had my 1.0l going pretty damn well for a 1.0l to be honest ..

I'd recommend a full on GT conversion to anyone else, but my spi lump has done 30k miles so i didnt want to get rid of such a good block. And the plan is, i'm going to get a 1.4 ABD bottom end and whack that on when i had time. I couldnt be bothered to detach and reattach the gearbox twice because I'm lazy! hahaha

Plus i got the head, injection, loom, ecu and 8k limit chip for £90 instead of the greater cost for the GT lump too. It was right for me, but obviously a GT lump would be faster!
