sprucing a mk2 golf 1.3 engine

Featured Replies

hi lads i have a mk2 golf(1991) with a standard 1.3(except for a weber on top)....I'm looking at changing a few things...seeing that the polo 1.3 gt engine is basically the same...I'm gonna get an 3F exhaust manifold and an GK inlet manifold and possibly a 3F cam....is there anything else i could get?

cheers...mike

3F/GT exhaust manifold is the same as any other non-G40 Mk3 Polo, and a Polo downpipe won't clear the subframe/steering rack on the Golf, I know this from experience.

Aftermarket 4 branchers are the same.

Best option would be the manifold and downpipe from the 1.4 or 1.6 Mk3 Golf...

thanks for the advice lad!..are you sure the exhaust manifold off a mk3 fits ok?..will it make much differance?....i was gonna use the polo gt manifold and the golf downpipe!??....does the polo gt inlet manifold fits ok though?.....what settup did you go for?

mike

If the Golf downpipe bolts up to the Polo manifold then you are onto a winner. I don't know if it does though.

I'm looking into fitting the Mk3 Golf manifold and downpipe, just need to get them! Yeah the Polo GT inlet manifold fits fine.

I got as far as a rough running GT conversion but gave up with it - and am going to stick to a carb. Car is back to standard now engine wise, but when I've got a few more quid saved up I'll go back to spending on it

hi lads I'm hunting down a mk3 golf exhaust manifold and downpipe at the moment........so thats the exhaust handled!!......now for getting air in efficiently....I'm thinking a gt intake and a 3f cam..........any wise words of wisdom?...or anyone selling any of these?

gt inlet won't be no good unless your running the injection system off the polo mate.

thats what i like!usefull information!!!.....any other info for me.?.....i was told that gt inlet mani......helps alot...especially with a weber on top?

You can use the GK inlet manifold with a carb on it - this may be what you are thinking?

It's a bigger bore and fitted to continental Polos with the GK engine code, but they are a bit rare.

the GT runs fuel injection and fits on to the inlet mani in a totaly different way to the carbs, but as toby says the GK inlet many is the mani of choice for carbed engines, if you can get one.

German ebay is probably the best place to find one of these, they did pop up on a few uk cars i think but not any particular models, (although i'm not 100% on that).

if you really wanna get the mixture in there good and proper have you thought about a set of bike carbs?, i've got a set i'm thinking of putting on my mk3 if i can get an inlet mani made up cheap and can find out what jets to run, but mines gonna be a kinda pikey set up to be honest

that link don't work mate, if you copy and paste the item number up we have a look

It's a GT cam, to run that, you'll need an electric fuel pump mate

did that make much difference on your toby?

Wasn't worth it really... 268/268 is where it's at!
