insurance for 17 year olds

Featured Replies

as above. what companies have people used for insurance when they were 17 that gave decent rates?

most the ones I've tried sadi they cuddent insure me because of my age...

thanks for the help. oh and I'm hopefully getting a mk4... 1 litre if insurance KILLS me. or a 1.3 or 1.4 if the price difference isnt that bad...

on that note can i ask why people say the 1 litre is so slow? on parkers its about 18 seconds to 60 in the 1.0 and only 2 and a half seconds faster in the 1.4 IIRC.. dont quote me on it :p

thanks a lot people

endsliegh? (SP) i just used confused.com and moneysupermarket.com or what ever its called and use the cheepest quote. worked for me

bell/admiral

Cant help you with insurance

But the 1litre IS slow ;) 2 1/2 seconds slower than the sloooowwwwwww 1.4 8v :lol::oops:

18 seconds to 60? I knew they were slow... but that's taking the piss

Although, if that's VWs figure it's probably about 3 seconds out!

mate, just get a 1.0 litre. I wish i had so that i could have been the main driver and got at least 1 years no claims. This will make premiums so much cheaper. Although the car will be pretty damn slow, it will cost pennys to run. :-)

more than seem to be cheap for me.

yeh i was thinking the 1 litre on my own policy is well tempting.. but i dont wanna be slow  do these companies allow modifications? thanks for the help so far people (Y)

Endsleigh will sort of, might be a bit of an increase on the premium.

Quinn should insure you, might be a bit pricey but they're fairly good with modifications.

Other places like direct line, tesco etc will probably insure you but wont allow modifications most likley.

Confused.com seems alright, endsleigh came up cheapest for me (18)

think a 1.4 does 0-60 qicker than 15.5 seconds. more like 13-14 seconds

Well 2.5 seconds faster 0-60 and more torque, free-er revving and better throttle response will make the 1.4 seem a hell of a lot faster and will be easier to drive.

If you haven't already got a car, get a shitbox that's cheap to insure, always check the insurance before buying.

Just run the cheapest insurable car for a year to build a NCB, save up and buy the one you really want once you've got experience driving and can appreciate a good car from a bad car.

I also recommend the pass plus, this will reduce costs greatly.

You tryed adrianflux there for moddifield cars and if you want breakdown its £42 for uk and european

They have allways been pretty good to me.

Adrian Flux wont insure 17yr olds.

Quinn direct just quoted us £600 for the Polo with all mods declared (no engine mods), thats my dads policy with me as a named driver. The next best quote was nearer the grand!

I'm 17 in 2 weeks so thats with me on a provisional etc.

Whenever I go to get a quote, my quotes come out to £3000!! For a 1 litre aswell on thirdparty :S is it cause the websites are gay or am I doing something wrong? I am going to phone instead and see what they say.

Where do you live? Does your location have a high crime rating?

i have a 1.4 16v 6n Polo and I've only just turned 18 so i got insured for £78 a month when i was 17 i think the deposit was about £100...I'm with Direct Line and although my mum is the main driver i still can get a years no claims for being just a named driver! call up and see what they say, the car will have to be in the main drivers name though i think...BUT keep in mind i'm a girl so its cheaper :-D HOWEVER I'm also fully comp! ...

I used CIS (Co-operative Insurance Service) when I was 17, cheapest around for my Mk2 Golf 1.3

Direct Line came up trumps for me and I've got 6 points, recomended...

Plus you can save more if you go as a named driver on your parents and still get your own no claims.

CIS is really cheap generally I've found. Lets you earn NCB as a named driver too.

ASDAs been good for mates of mine with passplus. I had Sainsburys when I was 17, they were the cheapest for me then.

become a member on here and try and look at the members discounts area

Isnt that no claims only transferable within direct line though? It used to be, quite a lot of people were fooled by it as other insurance companies wouldnt accept it!

Id go for Direct line aswell amte they have loads fo good bitts and pieces at the min ..

You cant modify your car though ..

OEM FTW ..

quinn?

hahah i remember when loads of my mates were assing off them saying they were still getting noclaims and i told them that i could tell it would be something gay like that

my own policy paid off, expensive tho for the first year

endsleigh were cheapest for me 18, id go for the 1.4 8v it won't be that much more and it's so much easier and nicer to drive and they are still pretty slow and i'd know i have got one, try confused.com and make sure you underestimate the amount of miles you will drive it!?

quinn?

worth a look, with them myself, 17 years old paying ~£1100 for my own policy on a 1.6l mk4 TPF&T

am in a very low risk area though, not sure how much that effects the pricing
