Well last night I got pulled a second time for my german plates...well plate. I just haven't got round to changing the back one. Turned out to be the same copper. He was a bit of a cheeky git, accussing me of not listening etc, to be fair I didn't get a fine and that was after the second time. Fair enough, but then he started saying my UK one wasn't legal because it didn't have a postcode and watermark on the bottom. Is he talking crap? Oh and if my UK ones are illegal in his eyes, then why change my rear one?

I read somewhere about the proper legalities for numberplates..

They apparently need a load of things like the post code, water mark..address and company name of where it was made etc etc..

Mine have none of that Literally just a plate with my reg number on it..

I guess it's just how picky they want to be? I think it was on the DVLA website or similar

I've seen a million cars without any of those features

if u go to halfords, they do plates with there stamp on but u cant see the rightin only if u look really closely

I changed my plates so I didn't have to have the name at the bottom...and without the annoying screws

Law states (somewhere) all that shit is optional - the only thing it MUST have is the British Standard mark on it!

I had a heated conversation (at the side of the road) with a copper about my UK pressed metal plates being illegal due to all these things being missing - and i told him that the law had changed since I had the plates so it didnt make a difference to me - its just new cars and newly made plates that have to come with extra stuff on it. I told him he will have a busy night as most of the cars that went passed us were all older than the new rules and he had better get along the road and pull everyone over too! i know that sounds pretty arrogant, but the guy was like 20 and knew fuck all! he even made a comment about the plates being dangerous if i was involved in a crash - like the rest of the car isnt made out of metal too!

i have german plates....

the police can read them there machines can read them i see no problem other than plates that are in stupid fonts or stupidly spaced

the fact is the machine they use is used across europe so can read forgien plates.

I've been told at MOT test centre, that the plates have to have a stamp, be plastic, reflective and have the UK font.

All this postcode stuff, I've never heard of before.

German plates are barry as fuck anyway.

Clean plastic plates ftw! No ads/ borders/ emblems/ backgrounds/ fancy fonts.

He's quite entitled to be cheeky Mouse...you weren't listening. Get those hunks of German gayness off your car before you really start annoying the local police.

You need a postcode etc. on the UK plates...go read the DVLA website it's all there.

Thank yourself lucky you didn't find a £30 hole in your wallet, you'd need to sell a lot of nitromors to pay that off.

In the words of NWA: Fuck tha Police! Last thing on my mind when doing Uni courseworks was to get tape from Halfrauds for to change my rear numberplate lol

yeah, but use a bit of thinners on a cloth and you can remove all watermarks ect.. but its obviously gotta be done before you make the plate

up until the regulations changed in 2001, the postcode and makers details wern't required on the plates, so if your car was made before then, you could argue that they are legal and the police would have to prove that the plates had been fitted after 2001.

Thats my excuse and I'm sticking with it if I get pulled.

So they don't really have any reason to look at my plates and think "hmm, something dodgy going on here". Where as German ones are quite obviously a different font.

Was thinking something along the lines of this, mine are pressed metal in holders but they're the correct height/width and reflective with UK font, not got any of this new postcode rubbish on them however never had anything said about them

Acid test happened the other night, got back from the missus' about half 12 / 1 in the morning, parking up on the road just up from mine, just getting out and I get a strange look from someone in grey 307, thought nothing of it, he then came back with passenger window down and said 'Police, everything alright sir?'. I replied that was just parking up and lived round the corner, he said ok and drove off, thing is he had a damn good look at the car, numberplates clearly visible, not a word....

was thinking about this the other day :-D

my mate at work has a sister who works for the feds doing admin stuff and 5 people she knows personally have been sent fines in the post because their plates were read by those cameras on the motorway etc and didnt have all the right bumf youve been on about! so they got fined without getting any chance to weedle out of it

we been on about it all week at work, its to stop identity theft basically, but while joe pikey keeps selling whatever you want with no paperwork required at shows and on ebay etc, as showplates, it cant be controlled!

So as usual the police are targeting the users and not the source!

but lets face it we would all be mad if we owned a red mk4 and some scum bag copied our plates and put them on his red mk4, then drove through umpteen cameras at 100mph, cos we would get done.

so thats why everyone should be legal, but it aint gonna happen while you can easily buy the things anywhere 'illegally' as show plates!

Always with the excuses Mouse. If you don't want the hassle don't run shit plates. Last time you were pulled over was months ago.

I'm going to try and get UK plastic plates with no markings. Won't get bother for those but like Kam said...German plates are an invitation to get pulled. Pressed UK plates whilst not 100% legal (not sure if they are retro-reflective, whilst the are reflective...and some don't have the right stamps etc.) tend not to attract attention.
