The 205 one has a joint in the middle. The thing is in a lot of cases it needs to be split in bits to get it into the car! Plus a properly sleeved and bolted joint is as strong as a welded joint.

how easy was it to fit?

meh, got no good pics yet cause theres no light in my garage.

when i get it out the weekend hopefully I'm gona give it a good wash down and get a few pics.

oh and with regard to fitting. if the cage had been designed to fit my car I'm sure it would been easy but numpty here neglected to realise that he had a sunroof at first and pissed around for hours wondering why it didnt fit!

with 2 inches off each leg it went in fine. BUT i agree with what some people said about the plates, they werent exactly contoured to the floorpan but as i was cutting mine down i just welded the rear in and managed to leave the front stock height.

i wouldnt say it is do able without a welder though cause the fronts need some angle putting in to sit on - as you can see in that 205 that posted.

have you welded spreader plates into the car under the rollcage feet?

don't want to pour cold water on your plans or sound like a moaning old git , but if you are going to use it on the road, unless you have specialst insurence having a cage will invalidate your insurance policy.........yes i know it sounds irish but it's true!!

thats a myth, brentacre are cool. I've just been quoted £1200 for any mods and power up to 190bhp. not bad with one years no claims at my age.

yea pinchy, the fronts are bolted onto L section about 8" long, the rears i cut some small L sections to weld up into the corners which gave me about 3x the load spreading and also to different directions and the rear stays were welded onto some 3mm plate about 2"x8"

I'm confident i have done a pretty neat job.

custom cages never got back to me, the best quote i got was for 1k from ppcages up north. Their work does look awesome though but wow i did not expect to have to pay that much for a bolt in cage!

Yeah they haven't got back to me either, obviously dont want the work or the hassel. Oh well. To be honest from speaking to various people it seems that around £1000 is a very fair price!! gonna keep filling the wallet till my car is on the road then i'll book it into somewhere. Keep me posted on any break throughs though and i'll keep my ear to the ground to see if anything pops up!!ez

no i haven't, pretty much tried everyone else then! haha

il try to get hold of them. tbh my main aim atm is to get my parts back from pitstop then get the car working then can think about cages etc!

My 205 OMP one was around £300 RRP, I think they're all pretty similar.

CDS isnt a special alloy or anything, it's cold drawn seamless which is extruded rather than rolled like ERW. It shouldnt be any harder to bend than the equivalent ERW, the advantage is that it doesnt have the weak spot along the seam.

You can get special CDS though (T45? etc)

i am happy with my cage, i picked it up off ebay for £170 so dont feel like i have done TOO bad, as pinches says, there are areas that it is a bit 'baggy' but its only the front bar across the top of the screen that notices - just cuts out a tiny bit of the viewable area half a sunstrip apx.

i am more than happy with mine for the money [less than 1/5 of the price of a custom one and 1/4 of a safety devices. the only think i want to do to it is weld in an extra bar in the 'strut brace' position to attach harnesses to [if its not too high] and one between the B-pillar legs at floor level.

might look at getting some door bars but really i am trying to keep it 'fast road' not track setup ie, easy to get in and out.

does anyone know a good supplier for a couple of lengths of CDS, would like some 40mm or imp. equivalent.
