My mate's Smart car has completely died at an independent garage in Sevenoaks; apparently the ECU has gone and the garage can't do anything more with it. It needs taking to a proper Merc shop in Crawley. It's stuck in gear, too, so can't really be towed. Are there any decent companies in that area who could transport it?

If hes with the RAC or AA etc. he can just phone up and say its broke down, thats if he has recovery/relay so he can tell them where he wants it taken.

I'm sure he's tried asking the Merc place but I'll check. Flat bed truck sure, but where can he find one with someone to drive it? I'm looking for personal recommendations.

He's tried that. Because it's currently already in a garage, they don't want to touch it.

If it's stuck in gear then you're not going to be able to push it.

What happened to the ECU? did the garage break it, if they did claim on their PL insurance, they should sort it or pay for someone else to sort it if they damaged it, that includes transporting it to the new destination for repairs.

If it was your mate that damaged it then you could try some of the local scrap merchants, offer them £50 to transport it to the dealer, a lot of them have flat beds.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. After a bit of hassle, the Merc garage ended up sorting out the transport. I'm not sure exactly what happened to it, he's being quite vague, but he's looking at a bill of about £500 for the repairs it needs (doesn't need a new ECU, apparently) then he's going to sell it and get a motorbike. Cheers!

Take the driveshafts out and push it down the road then put it back together and ring the AA

Depends iff your sly enougth to dodge the cost of a flatbed .. they can be expensive .
