whats the cheapest electric polisher jobbi i can buy to make my car nice and shiney and i dont fancy tcutting all around then waxing as itd take days.

ebay have a few decent professional buffers i got one off there before as a spare

but trust me you need to be carefull you can burn through paint very easy if your not carefull

If you're worried about burning through get a dual action polisher NOT a rotary one - the rotarys are much more dangerous. You'd have to be pretty stupid/unlucky to burn through with a DA. I bought a DA polisher with pads and polish from the US for about £140 delivered before Christmas but that was a 110v one so you needed a transformer too. Since then though Meguiars have released their G220 which is a 240v similar product so it'll plug straight in over here. Looking at about £150 for the polisher though here.

As for the really cheap ones (Halfords £30ish I think) I don't really know if they're any good but I get the feeling they're not very good - never tried one though.

If you really want to get into it go over to Detailing World and say goodbye to your wallet!

You could always borrow one though if you know anyone near you who has one and you only want it for a one-off.

Yeah but the results are worth it - when I did my white mk3 it really transformed the car from dull and dirty even after washing to bright, shiny and actually white for a change! Only trouble is it shows up my parking dings a bit more now! :(

But yeah if you know anyone who can spare a day then that's probably the cheapest option :)

i got a halfords polisher for my birthday 4 or 5 years ago and for 30 quick you can go wrong. the build quality isnt great, the buffer head fell off on mine after i pushed a bit hard on it. it still work though and it gets used loads. I've used it to buff up paint that i had cut back using wet or dry and it did a smashing job of it.

one like that yeah wet and keep the speed down loads of polish and keep it moving it's the edges and corners of the panals that will burn through easy

dont get a rubbish 30 quid one. just makes loads of swirl marks and is rubbish anyway

rotary one - be careful as said will burn straight through your paint.

this is the cheapo one i use for polishing, not really meant for buffing up wet flatted paint, but i does work. I've also got a rotary polisher/grinder like the ones listed and its really hard work to not damage the paint. i only use it for grinding work now!

seing as the guy just want to make his car shiney i really dont think you need anything more than the buffer I've listed

talk is cheap. I'm not saying they are better than pro kit like Porta cable. if you just want to save a bit of time with the T-cut and polish, (yes i know t-cut is rubbish cos you dont know the grade of it etc) i really dont see why you need 150 quids worth of kit, when at the end of the day its a polo

heres what my crappy halfords polisher did on my budget squareback, sprayed on my driveway using rattle cans, wet flatted and buffed, the total cost of the paint job was £100 less than the cost of a pc or meguires polisher, not perfect i know, but the car only cost a ton

heres my g40s 16 year old paintwork, personally i dont think the paint looks in bad condition

iv got a 20 quid one from focus and it does the job well

i was looking at gettin the £30 fro halfords, dont want to be spunking £150 when I'm a studend and have no money as it is.

tbh dont really know how to properly clean polish and wax the car as it is, just wanted to use the elec buffer to work in the T-cut to get the paint red again and to get a nice shine.

So from wt people have said here some say its worth it some say it isnt :(

Jon the g40 looks nice and shiney! top job, but it looks better on the bonnet cos its a dark colour, but the whole lot looks top.

i got one for around £40 a proper one with those buffers you can't fit all the different compounding heads for useing different polished and tcut is no good becouse it's full of nasty chemicals which your paint won't like.

pay the extra it's worth it in the long run will last you a long time and can sell on easily

get to you local paint suppliers get some G10 and a soft compount head do the full car then hand finish with blacktop

you should finish by hand anyway

My white Mk3 had basically no shine and was really dull, i wash and wax it by hand at least once a week and have polished it twice by hand.

I used Autoglym Super Resin Polish because its not too abrasive, it took me about 2 hours each time but its not that hard by hand, only because i couldnt afford a decent polisher. The results were great though and after a coat of TurtleWax it comes up brilliant. Add some Autogylm Ultra Deep Shine when the weather isnt being gay.

I've never had any problems with my cheapo one, though I only use it now and then. Just get a decent lambswool pad for polishing off with.

The best way to do it is talk a mate into getting one each, then work together, one putting on, one polishing off. Only catch then you have to help him do his.

Polish is abrasive, just not as much as compounds, and there's varying degrees of both.
