got pulled for my plates lol

Featured Replies

Yeah its was over the summer really, we would have our local meets and the coppers would come over and were like illegal, illegal, wrong spacing, wrong font etc haha.

In all fairness to them, in accordance to the dvla they weren't legal, but as many others have said they were at least legible unlike shitty carbon fonts and playboy banding and all that bollocks.

I also got pulled over by the traffic in July-ish and the traffic officer stood behind my car and read out my plate to his colleague, perfectly visible and reflective. No problems from them.

But at the end of the day with threatenings of losing my number plate and continued fines i just opted for the plastic ones.. Was sick of the hassle really.

Yup they aren't retro reflective (when the reflection returns to the light directly to the source, rather than scattering it...useful for infra read cameras...) and a couple of other small points make them illegal.

The guy was being REALLY picky and like Ross says other traffic officers didn't bat an eye lid. My dad said they looked fine to him and he wouldn't have lost much sleep over them, he does however have quite a dislike for blatantly illegal plates...wrong fonts, german or what ever else. It's not as if the cops sit at home and day dream about pulling over people with illegal plates...but if they see it they have to act...if your flaunting the law in such an obvious way you deserve to get pulled over. If your an a-hole then you deserve a fine...if your nice you should get a producer and have them changed.

i thought i was a nice guy and if i had a screwdriver id have changed em there and then :(

its right though I've nearly bore the brunt of the skint week (anybody who lives on a 50quid a week budget will know how much a £30 fine will be like hahahaha)

Other thing to bear in mind is that if you're running a private plate, you can end up losing it if it's not properly displayed.

I got german pressed plates on my car. never had any run ins with the law over them. i do think that fining someone for a clearly readable plate (which the german plates are) is a bit wrong. obviously if it's a really stupid italic font which is hard to make out then fair enough. but then again i guess they have to draw the line somewhere.

I agree, my German plates are clearly legible, and after all, it is an EU-recognised font. My argument would be that in my area, there are so many imported cars (mostly from Poland, Lithuania, Hungary), none of which are displaying UK-font plates, but are still legible and none of them are getting stopped, even though their cars are here permanently. Seems as though the UK loves licking Europe's ar5e but won't use a bit of logic in cases like this. Though obviously I disagree with gay chavvy arty-farty fonts, shifting gaps and letters, "strategic" screws, Playboy logos etc.

... my new plates arrived this morning.

Just wait for them flashin' light in the rear view then now ...

Ordering my pressed plates this week..... :ninja:

pressed plates are great!!!

I dont see the point in modifying your plate you will blatently get done at some point and do they really look that much better.

I also hate plates that are stupidly hard to read as I would be shafted if I got hit by a car with them and then they drove off without me clocking the plate because I cant read it.

i don't think it quite works like that, alot depends on the copper doesn't matter how nice you are its a fixed penaly notice and like it or not they have targets

okay so here is where i become a right nark and say that standard english number plates are so much easier, especially for MOT's, we get afew cars in with random different plates and its a load of hassle trying to put them on the computer sometimes.

*touches his wood*

TMI son

I like using other plates at shows and stuff but I don't see the point for day to day driving. Its not as if UK plates are ugly. I really like my pressed UK ones!

So are Uk pressed plates legal? Where would one purchase these from?

not sure if there legal pal but u can purchase them from platemyride.com

cali plates are blatantly illegal. At least the majority of german ones are white on the front, yellow on the back and reflective. No wonder you got pulled!

If you can't handle the time, don't do the crime.

They are legal if they have the right font (Different for cars after 2001 to before), spacing and are of the correct reflective index level or whatever its called. Basically the cheap pressed plates you get online are really really not legal. I run standard uk pressed plates, they look sick but I'm unsure of their legality. Tbh if you roll with pressed/euro/US plates prepare for a fine, and dont moan when you get one.

i'm considering running standard plates again tbh, my germans are stone chipped to fuck now anyways!

 That's a good one...meaning may be unknown to most.

Threads like this should just be locked. If you run pressed plates dont complain about getting fined.

Some1 needs to make james bond style plates that flip with a button. Just imagine the scene points!!!

Or the geek points? ^

i have always wanted those!

Like the guy with the Air ride caddy with a legal plate viewable when you flipped it down, but a stubby germany plate in the usual place! ;)

haha yank plates on a polo.... makes me laugh. fair enough on a rod, but it aint even remotely american. i can understand german ones for shows. but stick to uk ones (without the crappy uk flag) for the streets. or what my jetta has, uk pressed. and they look the nuts,
