ipod nano vent install (updated)

Featured Replies

i have been meaning to do this for a while but now i have finished uni for abit ,so i thought i will get on and do it

going to make this thread abit like a "how to" hopefully as i work out how to do it myself

i wanted to have the ipod controls near me when driving so i can swap songs etc

(this will only work with late spec 6n vents as they tilt up and down as i found out at my own expense lol)

tools needed

  • flat screw driver
  • drill
  • saw
  • glue
  • file
  • sand paper

1. With a flat blade screw driver carefully pry the light control off.

2. Pull the light panel clear

3. then just wiggle the vent free

4.as you can see the new nano fits perfectly into the vent frame

dsc01591rl9.jpg

5. Taking the vents components apart there are 4 tabs(2 each side) on the sides push these in and pull them apart also take the mechanism apart

6.take the fins out of housing simply bend the frame out slightly now everything should look like this

dsc01595ci7.jpg

7.measure up the ipod and itrip. i left a single vent at the bottem and made it flush at the top

dsc01598cv2.jpg

8. drill a hole in the both sides and saw holes for the itrip to sit in as it is wider than the vent frame(the itrip becomes the stopper so the vent doesnt swing when you press the buttons on the ipod)

9.now that holes are cut the itrip sits nicely you need to measure up again

10. but this time on the vent fins part and cut the section out should look like this

dsc01607rf1.jpg

11. put it back together and glue the itrip in place and put it all in the car and it looks something like this.

12. and when i leave the car it looks like this

there is still a few things i want to modify but thats the basics what do you think??

I can run an ipod off my headunit so i took out the passenger side glove box a feed the cable in through the bracket of the door thing and my ipod jus sits in my glovebox out of site

good job mate, shame itrips suck :-(

Congrats on the smart idea! I've got a little Ipod shuffle & a AUX port in my head unit. But I can never get the sound right, no matter how loud I have it on the shuffle it still comes over quiet. And my shuffles so fiddley & has a clip theres no point mounting it anywhere.

good job mate very subtle indeed! my side windows seem to steam up alot so i cant remove the vent
