This is the LSD only chaps, no gearbox included.

How reliable are the phase 1's??

Is the gearbox as reliable after its fitted as I understand some machining of the gearbox case has to be done to get it to fit? is that correct??

How much of an improvement does this make?

I've not driven the car with the LSD on, as said above, its done no more than 50 miles.

From what many people have said, they are an awesome bit of kit, why I got it in the first place.

Maybe Lew could shed some more light on their performance.

In terms of performance it really depends what the preload is on it. In terms of the gearbox mine is an ex cup car gearbox so not 100% sure what machining if any is involved. But I'm guessing they must be able to take a fair amount of shit being a cup car and all.

I've finally fitted my Gripper equipped gearbox. It's certainly interesting around corners. You're alright with the wheels are spinning, but when they grip the front wheels will point straight regardless of what you think of the idea. I believe mine has quite a lot of preload as stationary turning of the wheels takes a bit of effort too. I vaguely remember asking for a gravel setup when I originally discussed the idea with Gripper. I'm fitting power steering to try to cure it.

I'm not sure what the preload is set to on mine, will phone JP and see if they know.

How many miles have you done on it? I'm led to believe it will ease off slighty once its bed in. JP will not mess with the pre-load unless specifically requested.

Around 50. Once I've got some better brakes, i.e. not metal on metal, I'll be trying a bit harder.

sorry to thread jack, but yeha how are you doing the power steering? I've seen people use corsa c pas steering columns for the mk1, drop me a pm if you need a link to the details
