Good stuff, looking good so far.. gonna be tight round the back there, what inlet do you have?

keep us posted.

what sort of power gains you expecting from the mods...

lookin forward to watching the progress thread!!!!

noice ! what you going to be doing to the engine along with the 40's?

While the engine is out, I had trouble with on of the trumpets fouling/touching the master cylinder,

had to re-route on of the brake pipes to compensate. It was still a tight fit. If you intend to keep

the ram pipes keep this in mind matey. :-D

I can understand the inlet difficulty if its the bottom lug fastenings, we had to modify a pin

for such a crazy fitment. :?

Good luck, you'll have lots of fun when its all up and running, the induction noise is addictive..... 8-)

well I've had 2 order sum 16mm trumpets cus the ones that are supplied as standard are 2 big by a mile!!!!!! the inlet manifold has 2 av bits cut away so u can get it 2 fit correctly ye old dremmel came in mighty handy!!!!

2mor: time 2 put new engine in and hopefully get it up and running

in terms of engine mods i have:

shrick 268/268 cam which isnt here yet!!!!

vernier pulley

polished/ported head all reconed lump.....(yoof's old engine)

4-2-1 fanimold and decat and 2inch cat back stainless exhaust with remus back box

twin 40's with feul pressure reg and march the 10th 2 be set up proper at aldon auto

in terms of power with the engine modifications I've done looking around a million bhp maybe more

well prolly mor around the 110bhp that engine made 96bhp running standard everything so hopeing 2 c about 110bhp

well as long as it aint mine i dont care but then it aint that large so I'm in no danger

got the 40's on the lump

put engine in and the clearance is minimal i mean rizzla paper minimal the servo is in the way and crushes the filter a little biut hey! thats life not alot i can do about it hers a pic:

will post up mor pics 2moro as its being finished and hopefully will b running

sweet as fuck!

ye its looking good now but by fuck did we av sum problems it was a nightmare.............i could do a list!

lol i bet.

Was it exspensive to get the manifold made up?

Mrgt, can you go into more detail or get a summary put up? I am doing a conversion with just about exactly the same gear - twin 40's, rampipes and the webcon gauze filters, on my mk2.

I would appreciate if you could elaborate on how things went with fitment.

  • Author

ok ill elaborate:

basically the manifold was £215 from demontweeks the quality is poor as is the fitment the manifold itself had to be heavily modified to even get it 2 slide on and 2 be able 2 get a plug socket on and or leads when manifold is attatched.

the ther is the issue of doing up the bottom bolts along the manifold it wasnt cut right and the nut wouldnt turn cus the manifold was in the way this was a right pain and took about 2 hours 2 do.......(VERY POOR QUALITY MANIFOLD) PLEASE BE AWARE

then u have issues with the throttle linkage hitting the manifold i had a fitting kit from weber which came with everything but if u just get bits and bobs it wont work buy a proper fitting kit

then ther are th clearance issues if u dont have a servo its game on, if u do then its so tight i have the shortest trumpets u can buy at 16mm (standard trumpet size is 38mm) and even with the slimline filters it still hits the servo it isnt touching the edge of the trumpet but its squashing the filter slightly but as far as m aware ther aint alot i can do about that

the u got the throttle cable 2 worry bout which is a job 4 2moro then thers the fueling i have a pressure regulator 2 piss about with 2mor so ill post up and c how it goes.

UNLESS U R VERY EXPERIENCED GENERALLY WITH MECHANICS E.T.C THEN U R GUNA STRUGGLE U NEED PATIENCE ALOT OF TIME AND THE RIGHT KIT ......................BE WARNED....................

Thanks for that little insight mrgt, it helps to keep it in mind now that I'm not too far away from carrying out the same work. It's been dragging out since november when I first got the carbs - the old version of the DCOE made in italia, which is reportedly better built but has only a fraction of the after-support the new ones do. If these ones kick the bucket, new ones would be on the table to start fresh.

No need to worry about lack of kit on my end, I've slowly collated together a plethora of equipment:

I've got a sorg manifold off deusche ebay, but it had snapped between the two halves, somewhat common I am told.

I want to get some different rampipes too as these steel ones are 42mm, not 40mm, and as such there is a negative step where they meet the carb - not what I need.

And yeah, I know the manifolds are arranged the wrong way round in the shelf-display style pictures. Derp.

wow! them carbs and inlets look the bollox man! good job indeed!

Mrgt, dellorto sell 15mm trumpets....I know its only 1mm difference but I thought I would just let you know incase it helps..you can find them here..

http://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/prod...artsectionID=41

Also would there be any chance you or maybe Danny could make a complete list of all the parts needed to do this conversion?

So far I have -

2x 40 DCOE Carburettors

- 30mm chokes

Sorg 40 DCOE inlet manifold

4x 40mm DHLA/DCOE rampipes

1x Weber carburettor twin-cable top-mounted linkage kit

1x Facet red top works pump kit

4x Misab O-ring mounting plates

8x Misab thackeray washer sets

2x Service kits (as the carbs are older than me by a long shot)

2x New brass floats

1x Filter king filter/regulator

1x Synchrometer and 90 deg elbow

1x fuel pressure test kit.

Some fresh bolts, brackets and so on.

Just a quick pointer, danny lee i notice ygot the flange type trumpets... You will need the slot in type to hold the auxilary chokes in place properly. 8-)

i suggested a sorg manifold in a previous post. they also have provision for throttle linkage [if it hasnt snapped]

they also go for a damn site less than that.

i saw twin 40s, inlet and bolt on sorg cast airbox go for £415 a week or two ago on ebay.
