i just want to stress to you all how good wonder wheels is. i bought some ronal R8 alloys yesterday and used hot soapy water, then turtlewax alloy wheel cleaner, and then scrubbed for about an hour. didn't touch the crap on the wheels. rang my mate who valets cars and he said use wonder wheels as its acid based.

the stuff is amazing, cut straight through the dirt and very little effort!!!

so if you have dirty wheels....use it. 8 quid from halfords but its worth every penny

There are MUCH better, cheaper and wheel friendly products available.... If your valeter mate is using it, he obviosuly hasn't been valeting long.

well he works at a vw centre, so he doesnt use exactly it, but he says they use their equivalent.

I find Autoglym Engine and machine cleaner works a treat. Spray it on, work it in with a paint brush and then rinse off. Its a bit more friendly (its water based) to the skin and smells nicer. :)

I'm using the Autoglym wheel cleaner and a paintbrush, works well.

take a look on elite car care.. some great products on there. 2b honest if u clean ure wheels once a week with a bodywork shampoo then wax its normally enough.

well yeah thats the plan now, but this was a refurb to some really tatty wheels, rather than just a clean

I just clean mine when I clean my car..............is that enough?

I use wonder wheels on my alloys and it has never harmed them.

But I put some alloy wheel seal on after using the wonder wheels so that probably why.

If you have cuts on your hands or anything though use gloves when using wonder wheels as the stuff stings like a bitch if you get it in a cut!

muc off is a good un.

also good for general use on bikes..... car bodywork as a dirt loosener before washing. makes life easy. an anything else thats muccy!

i tried muc off before the wonder wheels. not where near as good when its that thick

halfords have got that new autoglym wheel cleaner thats non acidic....so good for chrome finish's.....can highly recommend it!!

Just interested if there is any truth in that as it seems like one of these "some bloke down the pub told me a mate of his's sister said...." stories. I can't imagine there's much (if any) truth in it or they wouldn't still be making the stuff! I've used it loads and never had a problem and found it really good for getting brake dust off. It clearly says on the package that it's not for use on unpainted, polished wheels or split rims but I find it great on any painted/laquered wheels.

my friend used it on his integra wheel and it just stipped the paint off, I've got simular wheels so wont use it... but my girlfriend and her dad use it they think its brilliant...

Be very careful with Wonder Wheels!!!

I used to use it until I was a bit over zealous with the wheel brush trying to get the car washed for going to a wedding unfortunately I was not wearing any eye protection and a drop splattered off the brush into my eye. I immediately washed it out and carried on cleaning the car it wasn't until later when my mum saw me and mentioned my eye had gone blood shot and started to get progressively worse.

So I spent a night in A&E whilst they contacted the National Poisons Information Service after they pH tested my eye to find the fluid had become more acidic in my eye.

They had to call the NPIS as Wonder Wheels failed to mention the chemical composition on the bottle! The NPIS didn't have any information on their database about the product. So the A&E Doctor decided to flush my eyes with 3 litres of sterile saline solution which irritates the eyes to expel the acid and to dilute it to try and get the pH back to normal.

After doing a chemical analysis in the Lab it was found that Wonder Wheels is a dilute Hydrochloric Acid.

All I can say it hurts like hell and I was wearing an eye patch for a week or two, it left my eye slighlty dry too.

As for Wonder Wheels itself if you drop it on the ground it fizzes, it's that strong; and if you value your eyes/face wear eye protection when using it.

Also would you really want to put Hydrochloric acid on your expensive rims? There are far better milder and safer products out there.

I used to use it a lot but I one left it on for a tad too long and it damaged the paint on the wheels. Luckily they were rather rough anyway but still. Then I started to use the AG Engine and Machine cleaner, it works just as well, didn't sting when it touched my skin and smells a hell of a lot nicer.

When I put it on my wheels, it reacted with the brake dust forming a yellowy green colour... thought it looked quite nifty!! :) haha.
