My retrospective project diary

Featured Replies

I originally posted this on here about a year ago, but the thread's dropped off the bottom of the list.

Well, another year on, so I thought I'd update it. Original thread's gone, so here's a new one. Photobucket makes this so easy!

2007 has been a rough year, 2008 will be a good one (go and buy the March issue of Max Power - due in shops this week - to see why). Lots to do, and I'm going to do as much of it as possible.

Enjoy. :)

It's been in my garage for most of the time since returning from PSD, awaiting a gearbox swap which should happen on the 23rd. Then it's back on the road, but not as a daily driver. Perk of my job is I get cars to test every week, so don't need to rely on my own.

Hopefully there's at least one person on here who found that interesting :roll:

Nice to see the car change shape over the years, the pic of yours next to the mk3 with the roofrack on teardrops makes me want to get my teardrops polished!

Nah, mine was registered in Louth, Lincolnshire. According to the service history it moved to Bracknell, then Oxford, then Bristol, then it passed into my hands. I'm the sixth recorded owner, but the fifth is my Dad (I was 16 when I got it).

ERP is a Northampton plate, suggesting these are VW pre-registered cars. Possibly ex-demonstrators, or even from the press fleet. I personally hope it's not the latter.

your cars so nice i love the colour.

i notice all the break downs are when the g40 goes in same as me! great fun lol.

vandals damage is heart breaking jelious little ****ers!

that s a good lenght of time to own the one car. i think u should keep it for life now.

the "Pre-winter clean, October 2006" is my favourite pic.

It's getting some 14" Speedlines this year, I plan to alternate between the two sets. The 14s will go on for track stuff (which I plan to do) and the 15s will be refurbished eventually.

Until 2007 my car had never been on a tow truck. It has now been on three. I think it realised I was earning money, and no longer a student, and got the hump because none of said cash was being spent on it.

And no, I can't sell it.

really good read that.

that rado looks familiar

I hadn't twigged you'd bought Si's car. If you're wondering, I did a bit of work there in 2006. Couldn't resist snappic pics in the car park. Ahem.

phat read man :-D

Can't believe how long you've had that for! I wish I had the patience to keep a car that long. Really good and am now looking forward to seeing it in the mag.

Wow, 8 years nearly! Has it been that long?! :o I've had 9 different cars since 2002! Which isn't that bad really compared to some people on here. The derby's a keeper though. :D

Real tidy mk3 8-)

Interested me

Its not so much that you've had it for 8 years. Its the fact its look nearly the same the whole time just with little tweeks but it still look really really good!

Loved it from the first time I saw it. Just looks right!

Can remember joining the polo-l and polo-gt Yahoo E-groups back in the days before Porka and even Club Polo, and being very envious of this car - I remember wishing that I'd saved a bit more and got a GT instead.

If someone'd said to me then that 5 years on I'd be sticking a G40 engine in it I'd never have believed them lol.

Always loved this car Alex, and a great diary of events.

What exactly happened in the accident in 2003. Looks like a massive key mark down the side

I love seeing all the old pics, wonder if anyone noticed a certain blue mk2 looking slightly sorry for himself back then! I've had Bluey since 2000!, tho i recon he's changed a bit more than minty  we must get them together soon :-D

Yeah I should be back at shows this year, things have calmed down a bit now and I can get a few of the cosmetic niggles sorted before it all kicks off.

The car was keyed in April 2001, about a week after it was broken into. Bad luck really does come in threes- I had my shitty alarm installation done that month too. The fuckers did about five cars down my road at once, so it wasn't just mine. I did manage to neaten it up a bit but that scratch always bothered me. Thankfully I got enough money out of my insurance company to sort the bump and the scratch - it had a full respray.

love this car got to say its my fave mk3.

whats this rocker cover??? i like it but it aint the same as my GT and i want one!!

It's an alloy one from a Mk2 Coupe S. They're riddled with scene tax now. You'll need to tap a hole in it for the breather pipe, not a difficult job but I decided against it because I was saving for a conversion.

good read, nice progress :D

Tommy.

nice pics / commentry

I love this car :) You've had it ages! It looks great, and only 2 sets of wheels in what 7/8 yrs?!

Where on the A14 is that? It looks familiar?
