I'm doing 1 of these intensive driving courses, cost's a bit of money but i'm bored of "learning" and want to pass so i can drive to reading at the end of March.

Would you drive there on the motorway or A roads?

Dunno reli, i'm a bit worried bout motorways.

What did you do when you passed your test?

straight after I passed...It was a blast down the M62 before anything else...Go for it dont be worried

I drove on the motorway about 3 weeks after passing, wouldn't have done it by myself. Did it with my dad, if you're a bit worried then take someone experienced with you the first time.

the first day i was insured after passing,it took me 2 and a half hours to get my dad the money to pay for ma first insurance payment,i cant even remember where i went,just drove around my town,then i went on the motorway the next day to the trafford centre,been loads of places using motorway since,went to newquay,sat behind my bro in his 1971 camper,9 hours of camper rear end is boring hahaha...but yeh just drive sensibly and dont pull any stupid moves on the motorway,you'll be fine,but like Olly S said,if your not confident then take someone with you who is :)...

for your first time if you are worried just stick to the slow lane

but if u do wanna change lanes etc dont think u have to keep an eye on everything....just try n concentrate on the lane your in and the car in front of you...if you are changin lanes u only need concentrate 2 lanes...the one your in...and the wanna u wanna change into

thats because the polo's are actually useful for parts...the corsa's are crushed into little cubes as soon as they enter the scrappy

try and get some1 experianced to sit in with you, when i first passed i had to get the train to my dads, then drive home the day after (45 miles) so my dad let me drive his jaguar x type on the motor way, then back to he's to get in the polo and try in that, before he let me drive home on my own, so try to get some1 that knows how the work and what to look out for. KEEP observant and concentrating at all times, its not just your inexperiance its the other cocks around you.

If you go on motorway do one thing dont just SIT in the MIDDLE lane sooo annoying

Nothing more annoying than being in my truck at 56mph and having a car sitting at 55 in middle lane GRRRR

But other that, i say go for it just watch out for nutters in bm's etc doin 100++++

Think about it like this:

Motorway = 3 Lanes @ 70mph

A Road = 2 Lanes (Average) @ 70mph

I was going to do an A-Road trip up to Chesterfield but tomtom calculated it at 6hrs and i thought sod that, more dangerous driving for ages so I took motorway. All i say is just don't get imtimidated by the regulars in their BMers and Mercs that tank up behind you and in the fast lane.

the night i passed i drove from reading to chippenham down the M4(motorway) was scary getting on but after that it was well easy

confidence and consideration. Combined, they are the key to good motorway driving.

i passed myt test in the morning, got home and insured my Golf and promptly went out and done a ton on the motorway on a strech that went by my house.

i had a friend who wouldnt go on the motorway for months, it just comes down to confidence

have you thought about Pass Plus? this actually inclides motorway driving

it also HALVED my 1st years insurance

i paid about £80 for PassPlus but it saved near on £400 on my insurance...

i did pass plus as well it was quite handy actually as it covers most of the stuf you cant or dont do in your driving lessons and as mentioned before it cuts insurance loads, i get to pay 30% less with the nfu now.

Once i was insured that was it, off i went to the closest dual carriageway and flatted it

Next morning drove to the office - 6 junctions worth of m25 in morning rush hour!!

I find motorway driving very relaxing, you don't have to constantly start and stop, it's better for your economy.

The best thing to do, is to always check your blindspot. I've seen so many near accidents happen because two cars try to go in the middle lane at the same time, or someone is moving over without checking.

I drove down to Southampton the other day and that was my 1st time on a Motorway, was a little worried at first but its a piece of piss, but just remember to always check your blindspot like Maxim said.

It feels proper weird having to change gear when you come off the motorway after having been on it for ages though!

motorway driving is ok actually bit boring after a while but keep you are concentration and dont panic. keep in the left lane at first and just get used 2 it 4 a bit.

Motorways are inherently safer due to the fact there are no side roads joining the main carriageway. Anyone leaving or joining the motorway must use a slip road. It's amazing what a difference that makes.

Main areas of concern are when moving to the middle lane(s) as there may be someone in another lane doing the same thing. You really need to make use of all your mirrors and have a good general awareness of who is around you. Blind spots are a must. Generally sharing the road with the general public...that's always a concern

Don't feel obliged to drive at 70mph. Leave yourself plenty of room between you and the driver in front. This will help give you time to react to any developing situations. More time you have to react the more likely you'll keep out of any real bother.

main thing is know whos around you so just keep looking,

just make sure you use indicators when your changing lanes, my theory is if you tell some one where your goiing they then know,

and most of all feel confident in being there, don't let people bully you about, and watch out for the outside lane, if you see a dot rapidly getting quicker its a good idea to move over.

lol it took me 2 hours frm passing my test to get on the M62, just don't worry about it!
