Got a really manky cylinder head i head to clean up, apparently a couple of litres of coke will clean it up.

Anyone tried this?

mum uses coke to clean brass etc it works extremely well!

No I haven't tried this myself, But i have seen some pretty disturbing messes cleaned by coca cola. If it was my cylinder head, I wouldn't think twice of dunking it in coke overnight, I can't see what could go wrong, but it's possible that something might get damaged I suppose. Oh a need it's hard work trying to clean dry coke too.

That's what i was thinking. there's a guy on youtube campaigning to prove how poisonous it is.

is it rust you want to rid the head of?

if it is then try this...the best way to get rid of rust !!

Here's what where gonna use to get rid of all that rust - cheap vinega

Cheap parts washer! 32ltr container cost £2.99 at a local hardware store.

Then, place the rusted parts in the container.

Cover with plenty of vinegar and leave to soak overnight.

Scrub with a plastic or wire brush.

Watch the rust disappear like magic!

For any stubborn rust, leave to soak another night in vinegar.

Then scrub again.

Until it looks like new.

They looked brand new after a good scrub.

Be sure to rinse off all the vinegar.

Apply paint, etc to protect from further corrosion!

Should come in handy for all of us with rusty old cars! :-D :-D

I've only ever used coca cola to clean pennies!

At the garage this morning once they'd stopped my car gaiter(spelling) pissing grease everywhere they told me to just use washing up liquid to clean the rest off..

Chrispy that is a great find, I was looking for it all over the net. I have a set of shocks that need doing , down to Asda I go.

Coca Cola (other brands of nasty brown drink are available) is also very good for unsticking stuck injectors if you can't remove them from the engine in which they are inserted. Not tried vinegar, bit smelly.

yep vinegar, coke works well by breaking down elements as its acid based, jst dont leave rubber parts in it or you'll come back to find theyve dissapeared! i love working with acids got a mixture of phosphoric and nitric acid in my garage, oh and some amonia 25 % soloution which is also corrosive and very smelly

i really dont think i'll be drinking coke ever again, apparently it's pH is about 2.8.

I use it a fair bit. Rola Cola (Peter Kay fans know what I mean) works as well, if not better than the real thing.

I'm saying that coke is only 5% as 'burning' to drink as an acid-burp is.

Some people are hung up on the notion that coke will devour their insides on contact., when in fact that is only the effect given by the intrusion of another man's pee-niss....

Another good thing for getting rid of rust is charged soda crystals put your rusty/corroding metal (I've seen it done with hubs and calipers) into a bucket of water and pour a load of soda crystals into it. Then using a car battery charger, clamp the positive end to a peice of steel plating and the negative to the peice of metal you want "cleaning"

Then let them soak and charge it up for a few hours :-) it practically falls off afterwards
