problem with handbrake coming up too high

Featured Replies

right a while ago my cars brakes failed so i took it to the local garage and they flued the system and put new fuid in and bled them for me.

after driving the car a few days the handbrake started to come up higher than normal but i thought i must have stretched the handbrake cable.

so today after buying a haynes manual i went about tighting up my handbrake cable but i found it wasnt the cable.

what it is at the bottom of the handbrake its conected to a bit of metal wich is conected to the chasis.

but this peince of metal only seems to be fixed one side so when i pull my handbrake p its bending the metal.

under the side that bends up there is 2 holes and it seems asif somthing should be screwed in here but there isnt.

there isnt holes in the metal above theses holes in the chasis either ???????????????????????????

my dad says it looks asif a clip should be there but isnt.

I've tried to draw it on ms paint t help explain what i mean.

there are bolts one side but none the side which s lifting up. please help.

please help people.

what do i need to do? weld it dwn? or drill it and bolt it through with nut on underside of car?

has anyone else had this problem at all???

and before anyone says i dnt yank the handbrake up at ever bend or corner.

yes mate had same problem, take the plastic surround off and ul see those two bolts left and right. undo the retainer nut on both and then tighten both the same. leave handbrake down n roll it just to make sure u havnt dont them up to tight!

sorted now.

went dwn the scrapyeard and found most of the polos there had the same prolem but they had drilled a hole strainght through the car and put nut and blot on to hold dnw the handbrake assebly.

so i did this in the end but i thought id use 2 nuts and bolts and washers.

so its now better than when i brought it haha.

DIY wins again

nice one
