G40 steering arm freeplay

Featured Replies

Noticed today that the drivers side steering arm can be rotated about 10 degrees or so within it's bracket and the joint at the rod end, it does it with a knocking noise. Is this normal or not, I don't remember my old G40 doing it but everything seems as tight as it should be. :?

The question then is, did it fix it?

For those that can't understand my description I have prepared this quality peice of CAD:

The arm cannot be moved up and down at either end, but can be rotated quite easily along it's length.

mate i totally understand what you mean before the diagram and thats why i replaced it and yes it fixed it.

Cool, how much dough we talking for a pair?

around 120-130

thats fine, there is a ball joint either end to make it do that. if there is no play in the joints they are just doing their job..

mine were sloppy as owt though. I'm sure they are supposed to move a bit. alex you need to judge HOW much is too much really.

they shouldn't feel loose but they do rotate slightly yeah.

Yeah there should be a little play due to the inner rose joints.

I suspect I have too much play, but at least I know what I'm dealing with now. I don't think it's critical but I'll keep an eye on it.
