i was sitting down thinking bout it the other day (as u do) and i thought how do people manage to get there coilies the same height on both sides?

I figured just use a ruler and message up from the bottom on the thread

Don't measure from the thread as they can differ, measure from a fixed point on the strut itself.

I personally measure from the bottom of the strut to the locking ring under the spring.

count the threads on each side

even with mine wound all the way down the car sttill doesent sit level they never do

lol the count the thread 1 was helerious u eva seen coilies, the thread pretty much covers the strut lol..thats alot of thread, yea thats not a bad idea measuring from the bottom to the lockin ring..

but the cars them selfs never sit level

I heard that the best thing to do is just park on a level surface and just do it by your eye and keep adjusting until it looks right, because not every corner of the car weighs the same?

Park the car on a level surface. (apparently the top floor of a multistory is often very good!)

Measure the centre of the wheel arch to the ground on each corner

Measure a fixed point on the body on each corner to the ground (i.e a place on the sill you can identify on each side)

Check how uneven your car is sitting.. adjust.. then measure again.. a few times :(

I'm one to talk.. I havn't done mine properly yet and it's been months!

Lol I've had my coilovers for a few weeks now and not even touched the backs. Just left them how they were. Will be winding all 4 corners down all the way this weekend though.

yes you muppet i have them, you don't count all the thread, just from the bottom to the bottom ring not hard really as mine is 16, thats how walshc measures them and don't think you can knock that method, he has lowered enough cars on coilovers

i measured mine with a twig, marked with my thumbnail it was nearest thing to me as i was under the arch. worked a treat

sounds pretty damn good to me why do people ask a question then laugh at the answer that you give them, its not exactly a crazy answer just the same as measuring it, winds me up :mad:

Buy them second hand off somebody else who had them set perfectly in the first place

Yeah i used the counting threads with the thumb method, its the only way to go really, or just slam every corner as far as it goes, but as said above the car will never look even, all my threads are at even levels, however the passenger side seems to sit lower, it must be a coilover thing?

same here actually, all mine are level but my passengers side is higher its weird, i did lower it more once i noticed in sainsburies carpark at the feb manc meet

I either count threads, or if my eyes are sore from a heavy night the night before, use a measuring device wheel bolt usually works well, put it agaisnt the bottom thread, and mark it where the (tightend) adjuster ring sits

Only works on either both fronts or both rears, dont use the same amount of threads/marked measuring device (technical term ) on the rear as the front

Its normally the rears that drop lower than the fronts

Set a spirit guage on the roof when you let the car down off the jack...

Well what if you want a front low stance. My roof isn't flat anyway..

A reason they don't look even when low is because they're closer to the "straightness" of the floor so seeing how un-parallel your bumpers are with the floor is easier with less air in between.

I'm pretty sure its 16 at the front and 14 on the back, but i suppose i haven't got them horrible helper springs in so i have the space they normally take up, I'm lowering my front near side down more today, still not quite as low, but the wheel doesn't stick out as far into the arch as the other side, apparently thats fairly normal
