Black Beauty Breadvan

Hello

Iam now the proud owner of a 1986 MK2 Polo Squareback C, she is a spritely little monster and will be my daily driver while my other car is being painted and built up.

She is a black, standard C plate Polo C, so pretty much the basic model. She is completely original and is mechanically a sound car, interior is immaculate, the bodywork is totally rot free and the only things that take away from the car are its lack of history and a lot of car park dents. Oh yeah and its done 49K.

Here is my other baby, trying to make up my mind on rims!

Now a few questions about the glorious MK2...

1. What offsets does it run standard?

2. What can i get away with running width wise with a healthy drop?(I was thinking 13" x 7" & 8")

3. Who makes Coilovers, Shocks & Springs, etc and Whats the best brands as Iam on a budget?

4. I basically have £500 to chuck at it whats my options?

Thanks in advance

Alex

looks good should be nice with a simple drop and rims

and i guessing you are abit of a wheel whore haha

welcome aswell

All of them nice cars! and welcome!

1. standard offset is 38 iirc.

2. 8's on the back won't work without arch work I don't think.

3. shocks and springs can be got cheap...

4. lowering kit, set of nice wheel, cleaning products and maybe a change of interior if yours is gash?

Happy to help

Charlie

Welcome! Gotta love the camo in you are Golf, that is crazy!! :-D :-D Those wheels you got up against the Corrado are sweet - white centres and polished dishes would set it off! 8-)

Can i just ask where you got all that camo stuff done?? I can see it on your centre console aswell!

Blimey fast moving forum this one!

Thanks for the replies!

I was thinking some Superlites or Smoors but they only seem to be available in 8's with the desired dish i want to go for, is there anything deepdish in 13/14's?

Iam a little bit of a wheel whore but only in the bigger diameters

Is there any brand suspension that works particularly well for a reasonable cost?

Could i not run 8's without arch work if i ran a serious stretch? As i doubt this will ever see any spirited driving!

Sorry for all the questions, i want it decked and rimmed up ASAP!

Thanks mate,

I did the centre console stuff myself as it just clipped out and i used double sided tape to adhere it to the plastic mock wood trim as standard!

The bigger bits my mate Joe at Trimdeluxe did, he is based in Worthing on the South Coat and can also put his name to the Cage in Darren Bennets(G-Werks) Green TT as well as other prestigious cars.

Check him out, i cannot sing his praises enough---> Trimdeluxe

Alright mate, nice MK2, you bringing it to the next meet at the Fox?

Hello mate

Most Probably my insurance is due on the Rado at the end of the month, so iam going to drive that until my re-newal and then transfer my NCD onto a new policy for the Polo.

My old mans insuring the Rado for me as he is old and can get multicar

I want the Polo decked and rolling on rims by the end of the month, i think i know what wheels i want now, i just got to find them and have them re-drilled (i never do things very easily!) and due to their age they will need powdercoating!

Be good to catch up with you at the Fox

Alex

mk2 breadvans have an ET45 wheel as standard.

Loose the Carrado and concentrate on the mk2 breadvan! You know it makes sense!

Thanks for the comments

The Polo will get its day, soon!

At the moment my priorties lie with getting the Corrado painted.

I have found a set of wheels i like for the old Polo, they are 14x7 ET 31 and from the late 70's, I will be picking them up at the weekend while iam up that end of the country for UD

Continuing the age of the wheel, iam going to go with a John Player Special theme of Black & Gold, Wheels will be Gold and i will be getting some Gold tape and changing the silver side graphic into a Gold one!

All i need now is some cheap Coilies but as Grungeisdead pointed out, this is really not going to be cheap! However they do seem to go for around 400 Euro's on German Ebay, so its not impossible, plus my wheels are only £20 each!

Welcome! Lovely selection of cars there, really like the golf. Look forward to seeing the progress.

sweet interior in that golf! and welcome mate. with some subtle touches and soem smoors (will needed arches duin but coudl look cool) and some slammin' it'll be sweet for sure

Aye nice cars dude, welcome to CP. Keep us updated plz! :)

Thanks again for all the kind comments

The Corrado was rear ended so is on hold for a little while, which has meant i have had money to burn and a lovely little Polo on the drive and we all know what that means!

First off i purchased a PhilJ 80/60 kit and also have 10mm lowering caps, so Iam hoping to run the old girl at a scraping drop of 90/80 :-D

I have also got camber shims and the G-Ladersite camber adjusting top mounts.

Finally i won these wheels off of the bay for £75 delivered from the Germany...

As you can see they are masked because i did this to them....

and what they look like placed next to the car...

Wheels are a Rial from the 70's and are a Polo friendly 14x6 et33, tyres shuld be n their way to me as we type and i opted for 155 55 14's for that bit of stretch.

Everything should hopefully go together next Saturday all ging well (which it rarely does!)

Oh and building up a collection of stickers for the windows!

smart mate, looks like your heading in the right direction!

looking good

deffinatly post up pics when she riding low

looks good almost like a john player special !!

Boyz got skillz!

Amazing what a coat of paint in the right colour can do to a set of wheels! If you run some 165/55s on them you'll probably get away with just a light hammer beating of the rear arches.

Awesome mate, whens the next meet at The Fox?

Hello supreme, welcome to the forum.

Mk2 breadvans are the way forward mate, mine is beige and has around 200bhp on tap lol. Go to youtube and type in "the beige beast" to see how quick yours could be

I have indeed seen the videos of the beige beast when you posted them on Edition, i do hope yu also uprated the brakes as the breadvan has the worse brakes i have ever experienced!

Thanks to everyone else for the comments, i will be taking pics of them minus the masking today but I think i may prefer them being all gold?

Breadvans are top. I had a white mk2 briefly.

I vote for Compomotive Turbos on the Rado  What fitment are they? Most of the 5 stud ones I've seen are Jag fitment!

The Corrado is a whole other story altogether!

The Comps are 5x120 they were Jag or Corvette as i got two of the wheels off a guy in Southampton who built hot rods and said they came off of a vette.

Hubs and discs are at the machinist as i cant run adapters because of the offset so decided to convert the car to 5x120 instead!

sell me the merc wheels :-D

look like the polo will look nice once slammed on those rims
