Got a text saying the hubs have arrived so I've nearly got all the parts to start the brake conversion going (just need some flexis for the fronts and pads all round)

back home next weekend so will try and get them cleaned up and hammerited

Long time since an update but am getting there finally

Front brakes nearly ready, just doing the final coat of paint

Front hubs and new bearings are waiting to be pressed in

It's been a bit of a nightmare, the old bearings were well and truly stuck in, took 7 tons on the press to crack one of them!

The pile of parts to go on is getting stupidly large now...

New Black diamond predator fast road pads

Part worn Black diamond drilled and grooved vented discs

Refurbished calipers (off a mk3 Golf GTi), complete with brand new seals, bleed nipples and a fresh lick of paint

Refurbished carriers painted same as above

Refurbished front Hubs off a 16v polo with brand new bearings

Seam welded wishbones, complete will powerflex polybushes

Mk5 polo gti stub axles

Refurbished calipers (off a 6n2 polo GTi), fresh lick of paint

Part worn Polo GTi rear discs and pads

Polo GTi handbrake cables

Votex boot spoiler

Alarm fitting

Debating whether to hold off fitting the front brake setup until I can afford a suspension kit... :unibrow:

Next update should be with some pics 8-)

sounds like you know your stuff and are really going to town on the little polo

got to ask though, why go to all this trouble putting 280 discs on the front and doing a rear disc conversion when its only a 1.6....or you planning on a big engine conversion??

Just something I wanted to do really, picking up a lot on the way and when it comes to it this kinda stuff should hold its value if I wanted to sell it all on eventually

And I would like to get a bit more performance out of it engine wise eventually, but can't see a conversion happening, would rather just get a faster car haha

Still haven't managed to find a replacement hub so all the 280mm stuff is sat in the garage still :(

MOT tomorrow though :? Fingers crossed

Just got paid so new air filter, spark plugs, pollen filter and a set of blue magnecor HT leads are on the way :)

I really want your wheels! I love them! Car looks really good and I think colour coded handles would finish the car off nicely :D

  • Author

Cheers :)

As you've probably noticed nothing's happened in quite a while, been toying with the idea of selling up but just not sure atm

To get the car how I want it would probably cost around £300+, whether to spend that and enjoy the car until i finish uni, or cut my losses and get something different much sooner is what I'm stuck on

Stick with the polo!! Is there any need for a newer car?

Unless you want to sell your wheels to me lol! :D

Just after something faster really, 75bhp is getting a bit boring and insurance wise I can now afford a lot more :)

You could buy a VR6 engine and plunk it in lol! :) Sounds good to me, are you going to be sticking to VW's? :)

  • Author

haha if only, never been a big fan of engine conversions on cars like this tbh

atm I'm looking at things like Rado VR6, MR2, celica gt4, 200sx, etc

as for the wheels, make me an offer, you never know :p rear tyres have seen less than 1000 miles

Haha, ooo going for something nippy by the sounds of it! haha

Wow I would have no clue what to offer? Give me a PM if you are being serious about selling them with a price :)

Honestly I actually love them lol :D

Haven't added to this in ages, ended up putting the car back to stock, sold the solitudes, G60 brake set, 16v lights and then had a bit of a change of heart, decided to keep it to see me through Uni, so naturally ended up getting a 16v rear bumper, electric windows and fitting the rear discs!

Got a lower front strut brace sat in the garage waiting to go on and a Euro spec offside rearlight enroute (as before but 8v one). Probably rock it like that for a while, can't justify spending too much on it whilst trying to save for a new car, but might aswell enjoy this a little :)

Tore up the pavement a bit dragging it onto the truck and both the rear windows popped as the guy strapped it down, what a way to go haha

You still got the loop mate? Haven't seen it round Swindon in ages... Am I right in thinking it was out the front of UD this year though?
