Well its time for a change - this must go to someone who will look after and appreciate this car as the classic that it is! I could list everything that its had done - and millions of pics that i've got on photobucket - but the best bet is to read through my thread in the mk3 gallery section:- My G40's story!

I have receipts for thousands of pounds of parts and work done on the car - just about everything has been replaced!!! Anyone who knows me and knows the car will know that it has no expense spared on it! Its taken me over 4 years of hard work and loads of money to sort out the previous owners neglect.

Its a hoot to drive and get loads of admiring glances now its back to original spec. The body work in in very good condition for its age - I can name all the marks of rust on 1 hand - a few marks below the bump strip on both doors, small mark at the furthest rear corner of both rear windows, the last one is on the tailgate under the edge where you cant see it. None of these marks has ever got any worse in over 4 years ownership and I mainly concentrated on the mechanical side of things!

The sub and amp pictured on my thread arent included in the sale as they are long since removed!

Please get in touch if you are interested. I have loads of spares and a load of parts that I haven't yet fitted! Price is negosiable! I need it away sooner rather than later. But I wont let it go for silly money!!!

If you take the car away as it sits (inc the original badges - rear one missing in the pics but I do have it - along with a new number plate vinyl section) Its on Pistonheads for £2950ono. (MOT'd until August - Taxed until August - will sail another no problem)

If you want the car plus all the spares inc a complete (but stripped) engine then we would have to come to an agreement on the price.

I'm not really interested in P/X as i've just bought a mk4 16v!!!

my sister lives in germany and sent them over for me! :) Its a bit of a heart renching moment to put it up for sale - it owes me so much. But i'm coming up for 30 soon and I promosed myself a G40 when I was 21 - got one when I was 25. Now eventhough I still enjoy modding my cars - I hardly use the G40. Mainly my family and general everyday life gets in the way. I take the car to and from work a couple of times, then put it back on my parents driveway, and amonth can go passed without it moving. Its wasting money on raod tax, MOT & insurance for a car which I only maybe do 1500 miles in a year!

So I thought start with something a little newer and less powerful that my wife can drive too. Please someone give "Gizmo" a good home! :)

So your basically selling your G40 to pay for a Polo 6N 16v? Are you insane?

Your like this other guy off this forum who's selling a Golf mk4 GTI 1.8 20v turbo to fund a 6N2 16v.

I'd rather get a Lupo, much better looking cars, perfectly weight balanced, and the centered chrome exhaust system says it all.

Even so I cant see the attraction to a 16v lump on either end of the hook.

( I have a huge mountain of spare G40 parts too - maybe £800 worth of bits and pieces if you want some parts that I haven't got round to selling then i have some of them as well - along with all the parts i've removed to restore it to original spec!

Now on Pistonheads - priced at £2950 - but I'm willing to negociate!

How do you compare the handling of the 2 cars, I would really like to get one soon but when I test drove one it was pants compared to my valver on Kw coiles or even the standard valver suspension.

Very different cars.... The Mk3 is very exciting to drive, lots of feedback. It is flawed but you can either enjoy the flaws or get rid of them and make a much better car. Most will be in need of a complete suspension over haul so driving one might not be representative of the breed as a whole.

What did you think was pants about the G40?

Andy's felt like it had a nice solid ride when I was in it last, rode very cleanly.

The one I drove had a full set of Konis on it and just felt like you couldnt fling it about like the mK4, also the brakes where pants but I guess the brakes would be easy to sort. I realy want a g40 as the power was immense and I loved that bit of the car.

The mk3 G40 and the Mk4 16v are like night and day - mk4 has a subframe and is mk2 golf based - Mk3 polo is based on a late 60's design with no wishbones and they werent ment to handle or stop! But with a few tweaks they can be made to do both. Mine is just a Gmax kit and hasnt lowered it much, but its gas shocks so it doesnt roll as badly as it use to. i can push my g40 through corners at 70-80 that I wouldnt do more than 60 in my std 16v! I find the 16v very disconnected from the road, but it is easier to drive. The G40 when you arrive at your destination you really feel like YOU drove there not the car drove you!

I really hate to put my g40 up for sale - but its either that or my GTD!
