Basically, If I buy older aged or 'cherished' plates (e.g GHX 987F) And the REGISTRATION is dated pre-'73, even thought the CAR isn't a pre- '73, can I still run the registration on black/silver plates?

My dad did that with his Cobra replica and had no problems with the law... looked much better than the plastic ones

Yeah, the thing with that is at a glance, particualrly if the plates of the same age, who'd ever know when it was made? With a Polo, it's a bit blatantly obvious it's not pre-72.

has anyone on here had points for running german plates - think not, non endorseable wrong doing.

its not legal however and you would look like an audi "cOck" driver.

Have a look at the paperwork section, there's someone comes on here crying about having got pulled/fined/3 points for german plates every other day.

that states a £30 and non endorseable fine for misrepresentation on registration.....

if you google "Operation Larch" run by the police against dodgy number plates there is no word of endorsements - I'm quite sure plod would be screaming about points if he could.

its a dvla issue not police, the dvla will warn you by letter after the police have notifed them about misrepresenation - after a few warnings the DVLA are allowed to withdraw your entitlement to a registration.

and now someone is going to go on about "non kite marked plates" and new rules - which are incidently the same rules that have been out since the introduction of proof of id for aquiring plates...

and running another cars plate on your car would most definitely get you some points or more so all mr pig has gotta do is say your plates are deliberately setup to disguise your actual reg and they'd probs have you done under the same offence

not being difficult just saying be aware of what your risking really cause its gonna stand out like a sore thumb on a 97 polo and things get expensive when you got 3 points

and disgusing a vehicles registration, eg using an incorrect registration as you say above is a differnet CRIMINAL offence - and is probably non endorsable also. as again there is no prefix code for the points.

you will find the way you describe about running an incorrect plate will get you something realted to ringing as an offence - i doubt people who ring cars will be too bothered about totting up points.

i aint a copper lol tryna help and thats just stupid lol surely driving without MOT would void your insurance which would result in you gettin banged up for driving without insurance unless you've gotta MOT booked for the day your caught driving it your screwed and never know they'll probs say the illegal plates void your insurance in the future

yeah the point i was making was by making your plate a diff colour they might be able to do you for the same offense spouting its trying to hide your reg or make it look like something else i actually no someone who drove trailer with wrong number plate on the back and got points

they wont just give you a fine either they have been known to take your plates off you so you'll be 30 quid short plus what ever you paid for the plates id be pretty pissed

indeed the points come from invalidating insurance

running with no mot only voids your cover if having an mot is part of the terms and conditions of your insurance - generally if your involved in an accident with no mot the insurer will try and say your car was not fit for the road.

if it simply says in your T&C the car must be roadworthy - a good brief will get the car inspected and report back thus not invalidating any insurance.

I guess I can see the logic there lol, just a pre 72 plate combination is really tempting and it seemed a shame to run one on white+yellows...

My missis has an '87 mini on a d plate, but i converted the rear lights/boot/bonnet to mk1(early style), she has been running black and silver metal plates for three years now with no problems.

Even 1 mot tester put down on the year of first use as 1967! made me chuckle! lol

Yeah, been pulled for this, I had a double-sided trailer plate with the numbers of both tow vehicles on. Switched a trailer between vehicles and forgot to flip it over.

When I got pulled over, he took me to the back of the trailer and said

"Do you know why I've stopped you?"

"Errrr, tail lights and hazards are working - brake light?"

"Nope"

"Check my loads safe?"

"Nope"

"Errrr, it's not overwieght"

"Never said it was"

"Documents check?"

"Nope"

"Sorry, you're going to hae to give me a clue"

Luckily, the policeman was the understanding type and after he ran both numbers and they both came back as legal vehicles that I owned, he told me what he could have done and left me to it.
