Ah good to see its not a one off then. Swaying even more to the cause being fatigue then from being worked too hard. Wish i saw that thread a while back if I'm honest...lol. Ah well. With the engine stripped it was nice to see the rods and shells were in perfect condition and still well within tolerance. Shame the piston is made from balsa wood. Looking at my VE tables and DC's it looked to be circa 150hp. It certainly felt it! Maybe the AEE's twiglet rods are up to a bit more than is presumed? Then again they may have all folded on the next outing Unfortunatly time will not tell :(

If anyone wants anything prior to me writing out a sale thread tomorrow then PM me. (wheels, subframe, manifold, downpipe, rear strut brace etc etc...)

Yeh, i could do, but whats to say it wont happen again? I would be happy to see detonation splatter all over the place and the piston melted through as i would know it had reached its limits due to the state of tune/mis-tune. As its just snapped off i dont know whether it is down to excessive boost pressure, high revving, heat, general fatigue.....

Boosted compression ration at 9psi would have been around 16:1 so not drastically high compared to running a bar through an engine designed for boost. However, this may have still been enough to eat the now knowlingly weak piston. Next stage is selling up and starting a fresh project. I've done as much as i want to do with polos now so i'll move onto something a bit more performance orientated 'out of the box' if that makes sence.

i was looking into turbocharging my AEE. i have had very similar problems with one of my pistons...what sort of pressure were you running? and still on the standard compression ratio?

Then lift it out and put it into a mk1-3 :-D

I think the reason it was so potent at the end of its life was the fact it was 10.0:1 with moderate boost. A lower comp ratio with moderate boost pressure to get it going would be far more bland. If only internals didnt cost the earth! but then the whole driveline would need replacing/modifying, chassis strengthening, big wheels, big brakes........££££££££££££ It has to stop somewhere and this is not the car to be going all out on really.

Yeh i ran the plastic inlet, Its plenty strong enough and has enough material to be tapped into for vac reference pipes.

I best get on with the sale thread, so many parts! How i though it was ok to spend this much...I'm still never going to add it all up :p
