Faster than underseal though 8-)

nature's rustproofing.

I'd agree on the blocked breather theory though.

Nightmare :( I've had breather issues also but never got into much discussion in this thread..

Think I'll be eliminating the chamber and extra pipe that comes from the crankcase breather hole and just have a single large pipe just worried about the amount of moisture I seem to get. Living out in the sticks it's been arctic cold for weeks. I have had evidence of oil pushing through minorly but not like yours

This is useful..

cheers guys, that link is helpful.

well the oil has only been thrown up over the weekend, it was fine before xmas, and I've removed the carbs in that time so had disconnected the pipe for the oil breather, but reconnected it at the meet.

it was bent in a weird position when i got the engine and now has a natural kink, so I'm just going to do an oil and filter change and vent the hose from the breather pod to atmosphere.

if i get the chance ill get a garage to run a compression test on her to see what its fairing like, I'm just glad the engine didnt sieze on the motorway

These pipes don't fair well with years of oil on them and loose their shape basically they start to disintegrate.

I'm swithering on whether to get rid of the extra oil separator to stop this condensation build up. Think a compression test will be on the agenda also.

will be having a bash tonight..will let you all know how i get on.

please tell me some one else found that hilarious??

he's just saying what we're all doing.

Very different breather on the AFH than yours,MacColl.

I'm a bit lost with this because I've never had a problem with the twin-vented cube-box breather on the 6n engine. Its filled with a gauze though, and can hold an awful lot of crap which takes ages to flush out with the hot tap (they're costy new).

TMI Captain..

Doh! your right Mikey just stuck in mk2 mode lol.

At least I'm back as a member now :D

Really. Well..,according to your avatar you're a peasant..

Removed the breather pod today and gave it a good clean, some gunk came out of it but not a massive amount. I've also cleaned up the one from the lupo and i have a pipercross filter.

made a pikey catch tank out of an irn bru bottle which means i can monitor how heavily the engine is breathing, and if it leaks from in that region, its most likely the crankshaft oil seal =[ it was losing a little oil around the distributor seal, but you could see the mess is in the nether regionds of the back of the engine bay.

i took the top cambelt cover and it was dry and free of oil there, ill be checking under that lower cover tomorrow when i stick everything back on,

got a new filter and 5w/40 fully synthentic to go in.

quick question, is it going to possible to drain the remnants of oil thats in my engine in tomorrows baltic temperatures? theres next to oil left in the car anyway after it decided it was done =D

drained the oil that was left in the car, came out nice and clean, topped up coolant, changed oil, filter and refitted breather hose.

ran the car for 15 mins yesterday, she didnt want to turn over at first, bit hesitant, but started after 10 seconds cranking with some choke, idled itself after 30 or so.

alot of white smoke was coming out of the oil breathers catch tank and a bit of water in the exhaust but could be because its stood for 9 days or so. car doesnt sound too healthy however, awfully tappy, hope itll settle down with a long drive and the oil warms up.

still dubious as to whether oil and water are mixing, so I'm driving it to derby tomorrow evening and i'll see what its like after that, if it is mixing ill change the headgasket over the weekend.

I started looking into wierd and wonderful things last night such as K-Seal as a temporary fix to at least get it to the rolling road day without taking the car apart, but I'm worried about any potential problems it may cause in the long run.

or failing that ill just drive it till it blows up and then stick the cams in another engine =D
