Been toying with this idea for awhile now but thought i'd ask on here for some more advice.

Does anyone know if putting round (coupe?) arches onto the back of a breadvan has been done before? Before people go off on one and say i should have bought a Coupe...when a bready gets offered to you for £100 its abit hard to say no :p

If anyone has any photos aswell that'd be great :)

I'm thinking this aswell, as i love my bready and not so much the mk2 coupe, but i hate the rear arches on the bready. Would be good if some light could be shed on this topic.

My arches are getting crusty out back so it may be time for this after the winter

Ask yourself this..

Can you or someone you know fabricate, weld, grind, fill, seam seal, stone chip and paint with precision?

If you can then go for it.

IMO the rear arch is really part of the design of the car. If you want wide wheels then get a car that they fit like a coupe!

My parents used to run a picture framing business. They used to get annoyed when people would ask them to fit a picture to a frame rather than doing it properly by fitting the frame to the picture.

I've never seen it done properly with coupe panels. That red one is not 'properly',it just has round arches bonded into squareback quarters.

The coupe has different tail lights,the corner panel work under the tail light is different,the rear panel is a different shape between the arch and rear panel.

It could be done,it'd look great imo but I've never seen it done or known of it.

I get what you mean with things such as this, as i am a graphic designer and get these types of questions all the time. But for me i am more into the bready style mk2 but i love a nice set of deep wheels, and i think that the arches look great both ways, but it depends on what you personally want from the car doesn't it. I'm looking to get the rears changed, as i love the look of a wide hatchback. There would not be a disscussion section if we all went by the same things, but as before i still get your point. :)

Good luck in getting the parts to do it. Probabbly the only way would be to get a coupe thats in good contidition and cut it up..

i saw on someones thread yesterday, that he used golf rear arches and they are 16 euros each from germany.

they arent the full panel its just repair panel.

thats one way to do it.. but I think you would have to do all 4 arches as they are quite different to the polo ones..

Yeah the guy did all 4, the same site must do some polo ones. I'm going to look into it more, as its a good look.

yeah i did it on my breadvan and thats my build thread lol very hard job take a look I've explained some detail of it on there if you need any help just ask and mine are all fully welded on no bodge jobs or anything as I'm doing my car properly. and that site only caters for new polos and its only a small selection of aftermarket parts. The main body parts they do are for golfs and i do prefer the golf arches. took me along while to go and it is a mix and match job and takes alot of fabrication thats just a warning and the car cant be a daily to get it done as it will take more than a weekend and week to do mine took alot of man hours lining it up marking it out and you also have to grind away quite a bit. I also moved the sill wall next to the filler neck further into the body as it was rusted right through and an mot fail reason for moving was to stop it being a dirt trap so i ground out all of the rusty metal and replaced it all with clean metal.

I am now going to be removing my normal petrol tank which is nearly new with a nearly new sender (for sale if anyone wants offers) and i will be putting an alloy race tank in the boot either in spare wheel well or where the rear seats were as i have a stripped out rear this is so i can eventually go lower and stop catching as i am atm.

like i said anyone have any ques just ask and il try to help and i can also take closer pics if you need.

I'm sure I saw someone selling rear quarter panels on ebay not long back, may have been mk3, but if all you need is the arch then these would be pretty much identical. Would have thought mk3 quarters are still just available from vw?

yep there was. he had 3 passenger sides and 1 divers. The drivers one went and I had 2 of the passenger and some one else had the 3rd. All of them are on here :)

The drivers side is not obsolete on VW's system but they are on back order and they are £300 so it does make it a bit pricey.

Ouch! I remember asking about panels for my mk2 and they all came up pretty obsolete. The doors being mk2/2f were available at a similar rate of extortion!

I'm going to be ordering some of the golf ones when my scirocco goes,, I've got someone that will be doing it for me as he has done many arch conversions including camper arches on a merc lol. But ill get a build thread up when the time comes so people can see.
