Hi guys. I just got myself a vagcom cd and cable off ebay. So I have vag com vcds - lite 1.0.

Is there any way to do a throttle body adaptation with this free software as I tried to follow the instructions on ross tech but it said I need the full version.

I cleared my fault codes but I still have an erratic idle on my 16v

you can do it with vcds lite, but you need a registered version to access the adaption channel 0... so cough up

I don't like spending money lol

Ok I paid the $99 for registering.

I cannot get vcds to let me run a throttle body adaption.

I go 01 engine settings, 08 measuring blocks, 001 all I get is

rpm/temp/voltage/bin bits

It doesn't seem to get [adp run] in box 4 all I get it 10000001

In the top left it says Label file: redirect fail

Please help somebody

sorry i missed this.. if you have an open circuit fault with the throttle v60 stepper motor it won't allow you to set the basic settings for the throttle becuase not all the pre-requisites have been met, it will always return a 1087 fault code ' basic settings not performed'. sadly it's likely you will need a new throttle body..

Thanks for your input mate. I thought this may be the case that I needed a new throttle body. I'l post up the results of fitting a new throttle body soon

I have fitted a new throttle body and run the throttle body adaption on vag com. The throttle body opens and closes and runs a cycle. However adapt run doesn't display. My car is now hunting from 2000 to 2500.

I'm at a total loss as to whats wrong.

The only thing I can think of is that my old throttle body had the part number 036133064E and the new one is 036133064C

So i've put the old one back on and now it hunts from 1200 to 1700.

Brand new mate. I don't think there are any vaccume leaks as when I cover the throttle body over with my hand the car stalls.

ii can't remember what the c variant on the part number means, i'll look it up when i get home on sunday.. it is likely that you have bought the wrong throttle body though.

ok, run me through what you did with vcds again

I pluged it in. went to engine 01. cleared previous fault codes. went to basic settings 04. typed in 001 then go.

The throttle body can then be seen fliping away.

I'm not sure if I have been doing things correctly. I went and spoke to a mechanic at my local vw dealer and they were saying about how it would be reloading the basic settings for the old throttle body and I needed to do a complete reset of the system. I think they wanted me to pay £60 for them to plug it into their computer.

I thought that it would be ok to use the throttle body with the different part number as it was referenced in this thread

vw dealer iis talking bollocks mate! the basic settings procedure only learns the idle stepper positioning..

which ecu type do you have?

Can't think of the exact code at the moment but its a magnet marelli I believe?

can you go into the measuring blocks on group 1 and tell me what the binary readout is in zone 4 and get back to me

You need to get the throttle body with the same part number as your old one, try TPS (trade parts suppliers) if the dont list the part number then it has been superseeded for the one you have therefore the correct basic setting will work, it should say ADP-RUN.....then ADP-OK

If this still doesnt work, check fuses (sometimes there is one that relates to it) then check the throttle bodie wiring

Thats with the new throttle body on.

from left to right, those binary bits represent the following, i was thinking the throttle might be open a touch due to the cable being slightly too tight, but that would show bit 4 as a 1

2; not used

3; aircon compressor is switched on

4; idle switch is open

5; fault is lambda control

6; throttle valve open

7; speed above 1800rpm

8; coolant temp below 80deg C

no not to do basic settings

next thing i would try is unplugging the egr valve solenoid and evap purge valve and see if it clears it

I meet all the preconditions. I can have box 4 say 00000000. But it will not say adap run. However the throttle body is cycling through a tba.

I just noticed tho that the engine doesn't cut out when covering the tb with my hand so mabey there is a vacume leak afterall!

Try and get to the bottom of this today I hope.

Well I found a small leak where the vac pipe joins the inlet under the map sensor. So I swaped the pipe over and it now cuts out as it should.

Could you explain to me what you mean by coming out of basic settings and unpluging.

Sorry probably sounds stupid, just want to check I'm not being stupid!

Good find on the vacuum leak.

Are you making sure that you come out of the TBA alignment to the main screen and then properly exit VCDS before unplugging the cable?

How's it run now - after fixing the leak and running a TBA?
